1. The fight
When people saw the infamous fight between L and Light in Episode 18 many fans felt they recognized L's fighting techniques to be very much like Brazilian dance-fighting capoeira. Tsugumi Ohba, the creator of the series said that he didn't write it that way but he loved the idea so much that he declared it canon. How cool is that?via:MAL
2. How opposites operate
L and Light are always depicted as opposites. If you're unsure, re-watch episode 2 and pay close attention to their computers. Light uses a PC and L uses a Mac.
3. A little too smart for her own good.
Naomi Misora was supposed to be a kickass female character intended to help balance out such a male-heavy cast but she was abruptly killed off sooner than expected. Why, you ask? Because she was too smart. She pieced together the Kira case too quickly. Bummer, seems like she would have fit in well long-term with super geniuses like L and Light.via:MAL
4. Name Games
Creator Obha said he deliberately chose names that sounded real but were unlikely to actually exist, which is pretty obvious when you notice names such as Quarter Queen, Believe Bridesmaid, and Blues-harp Babysplit.via:MAL
5. Times are rough.
Ever wonder why Sidoh made such an appearance in the second season? The not-so-smart character wasn't originally intended to be there. Instead, the shinigami named Daril Ghiroza was supposed to dominate attentions. However, silly Sidoh was easier to draw than hyper-intelligent Daril. So, that's how the story played out. We all wonder what may have been.via:MAL
6. Eraser, eraser...
Not many people know it but in the pilot chapter of the Death Note manga a very different story unfolded. When a young boy, named Taro Kagami, finds the Death Note he accidentally uses it to kill several bullies and Ryuk feels sorry for him, humorous in and of itself, and gives him a "Death Eraser" to bring them back to life. Man, that definitely would have changed the entire series, wouldn't it?via:MAL
7. The Strawberry
It's hard to forget L insisting a strawberry is worth keeping a secret but what most of us tend to over look is that Detective Mogi actually puts the strawberry in his pocket. This raises a multitude of questions, most especially: Why?via:MAL
8. A different design.
Series illustrator Takeshi Obata originally had a significantly more human and attractive design in mind for Ryuk but his idea was shot down because Ohba felt that making Ryuk too human would shift the focus away from Light.via:MAL
9. Oh, Misa.
It turns out Misa was one of the most difficult characters to draw for Takeshi Obata. On top of not understanding her love and loyalty to Light, the combination of her lolita-like fashion and her endless variety of expressions and moods were all a challenge to keep track of and stay on top of. Somehow, it seems fitting that Misa would be the difficult character to illustrate.via:MAL
10. Did you know?
Death Note had a wide variety of video game adaptations, including a fascinating strategy game called Death Note: Kira Game, which allowed users to play as one of a wide variety of characters to discover who is Kira and who is L. Playable characters included Light's little sister Sayu.via:MAL
11. What an interesting concept:
L's surname, "Lawliet", is pronounced "low light". How fitting.via:MAL
12. That's some talent!
Takeshi Kaga, a highly acclaimed actor and singer, plays Light's father Soichiro Yagami in the live-action films and the musical despite many not realizing he was so musically inclined.via:MAL
13. Fanatics everywhere love this one
In the early planning stages of Death Note, Near and Mello were intended to be L's twin sons. Why was the idea shot down, you ask? Ohba and Obata both could NOT imagine L having sex. Keep them away from fan-fiction.via:MAL
14. Cross Debacles
Misa Amane's infamous cross jewelry was changed to fleurs-de-lis in the anime to avoid controversy. However, the first opening sequence didn't get the memo and she is clearly wearing cross jewelry.via:MAL
Ex-FBI agent Naomi Misora is recognized by L in both the manga and the anime series because of her work on the Los Angeles BB murder cases, chronicled in one of the light novels. Naomi and L only meet once and Naomi never realizes that they did in fact meet.via:MAL
