15 of the Best Gore Make Up And Special Effects You Won't Believe Aren't Real

15 of the Best Gore Make Up And Special Effects You Won't Believe Aren't Real

If you've been a fan of the horror genre as long as I have then you've probably noticed how far we've come in the special effects and makeup department. Just compare the original Dawn of the Dead and their blue faced zombies to the onslaught of horrifying zombies in today's TV series The Walking Dead and you'll know for a fact that we've come leaps and bounds.

In fact these days sometimes all you need to do to see just how much talent is cram-packed into the special effects world is visit a solid YouTube page or Instagram account. Which is precisely where we found today's amazing artist!

Instagram sensation Kiana Jones (aka freakmofx) is an Australian based make up artist absolutely killing it on the Internet today by... well, killing people. Or seeming to with these incredible skills. Have a look for yourself but be warned: these victims and wounds are so realistic that you may have a hard time accepting that they are indeed not real at all.

(Seriously if you have a weak stomach some of these are WAY too realistic!)

7. Safety first

Kiana had a lot to say when she captioned this project of hers, reminding her followers that safety is important and we all learn as we go:

In the interests of not being a total hypocritic I have done stupid, unsafe shit too. This was back in 2012 or 2013. I made an eye cover out of silicone on a cotton pad, then stuck a wooden paint brush handle to it and covered it with more silicone. I thought it was safe because it was thick, but in reality if i had fallen face first the rigid wooden handle probably could have penetrated through the silicone cotton pad thing and into my eye. When people back then told me it was unsafe in the comments I argued with them. I didn't want to be criticised. But I'm glad they did because it eventually sunk in and otherwise i wouldn't have known. I still struggle with negative feedback, but when safely is an issue it's important. When people see your work and copy you it's important. Now I tell people to make soft, foam props that will bend on impact, and have rigid plates like vacuform or resin, etc, between the eye and the prop.
