Powerlifter Sets World Record With 1,005 LB (456 Kilograms) Squat
It's not everyday that you hear about a world record being set in the powerlifting division by an almost complete unknown, yet that's exactly what's occurred here with Ray Williams. Not only did he set a new powerlifting record with a half-ton on the bar, he did it "raw"--that means that he squatted over 1,000 pounds with no knee wraps. He is wearing knee sleeves for protection only, and they don't help him to gain any weight in his squats. He is wearing a belt, but no squat suit, which is generally used as support for squats.
