Artist Re-Creates Beloved Animated Characters To Be More Realistic
Roosa Karlsson is a talented illustrator on a mission. According to Roosa, in the world of animation adults are designed for adults with child-like features. The large eyes and rosy cheeks are pleasing to look at and easy to understand why a face like that would sing to a woodland creature and have it respond appropriately but some people find the logic behind their design to be a little bit creepy.
So Roosa took to her photoshop skills and decided to make subtle changes, making these beloved animated adult characters much more realistic, to resemble something more what they look like as human beings in the real world.
The differences are subtle enough and perfect enough, that one is left wondering why animators don't just do this, to begin with?
1. Mavis from Hotel Transylvania
Mavis may be a vampire but more realistic features make her a character that's much easier to relate to and enjoy looking at.
2. Linda, from Rio
Filling out her body just a little and taking away some exaggeration in her eyes makes Linda look so much more natural.
3. Aunt Cass from Big Hero 6
This is one of my favorites because Aunt Cass really, truly, goes from animated character to realistic person.
4. Susan from Monsters Vs Aliens
Susan's exaggerated features look ridiculous next to this edit by Roosa. Susan now looks like a normal person!
5. Elsa from Frozen
It doesn't take much tweaking to make Elsa look like a normal person!
6. Colette from Ratatouille
What we love the most about this is that Colette's unusual and striking features are still extremely present without being exaggerated and, well, ridiculous. She looks beautiful!

It seems like Anna's personality still shines through, even with more realistic features thanks to Roosa!
8. Honey Lemon from Big Hero 6
All around smaller features turn Honey Lemon from a cartoon to a person, easily.

Roxanne just looks so much more pleasing on the eyes with this edit.
10. Mother Gothel from Tangled
Mother Gothel certainly takes on a more sinister appearance when her features are toned down just a little bit.
11. Merida from Brave
Merida's face is thinned and her body is thickened and she looks so much more like a normal person!
12. Rapunzel from Tangled
It's all in the eyes and cheeks here, Rapunzel goes from cute and bubbly to elegant and beautiful with this fantastic edit.
