The OP shared a story about one of her friends who recently asked her a rather unreasonable favor.
The Redditor's friend, Chantelle was evicted from her home because she hadn't paid rent for a year.
Chantelle asked the OP if she could move into her house and said she would pay rent. But the OP refused and explained that she doesn't have room in her house for her and her three kids.
Chantelle immediately suggested that OP should get rid of the birds to make room for them. And, understandably, the OP said no.
Later on, another friend told the OP that Chantelle was posting about her on Facebook. Not only that, but all of Chantelle's friends joined in and were saying all sorts of nasty things about her.
The OP says she feels bad and is wondering if she is the a**hole here.
Here's how people reacted.
"She'd never pay you a dime."
"You'd end up being trapped in your own home."
"It is not your responsibility."
Okay, but let's see the birdies.
Who does that?
Let her other friends take her in.
You don't need the drama in your home.
"Your place is not a charity house."
There's no way she would have paid the rent!
"Her situation is not your fault."
"Her choice. Not your job to fix."
"This is insane behavior."
"She needs to learn some respect."
You're not the selfish one.
"You had every right to say no."
"There's no room at the inn!"
"NTA times a million."
"Sounds like she needs to fix her life herself."
Good thing she has so many other supportive friends.
"If they are so concerned, she can move in with one of them."
Okay, but show us the birds!
"It sounds like you were not the first person to turn her away."
"You don't owe anyone anything."
"She's not your responsibility, the birds are."
"You dodged a bullet."
"It's not your burden to bear."
"You have no obligation to her."
What's your take on this situation? Do you think the OP should have taken Chantelle in, or did she do the right thing by saying no?
Either way, it seems very unfair of Chantelle to expect the OP to abandon her animals for her. It's OP's home, after all, and the birds are her responsibility, unlike Chantelle!
