There are numerous ways to celebrate Black History Month, and some cosplayers are doing so by using the hashtag #28DaysofBlackCosplay.

The hashtag was initially created in 2015 by a cosplayer named Chaka Cumberbatch. Chaka did this with the sole objective of breaking down racism and promoting inclusion within the community of cosplayers.

"It began as a way for us, as Black cosplayers, to celebrate and showcase our own work in the midst of a subculture where we often felt overlooked and ignored," she said. Among all the cosplayers participating in the Black Cosplay Challenge, we see Kiera Please, a 21-year-old cosplayer who is also taking part and generally shaking up the cosplay world.

The cosplayer is a native of Virginia, and she transforms herself into a variety of characters that range from children's cartoons to books to animated movies. Some of her looks are elaborate, featuring fur pieces of clothing and full bodysuits to match the persona she is replicating.

Characters like Sadness from the Pixar movie titled Inside Out are achieved with intensive makeup, which includes a layer of blue face paint along with a matching bright wig.
