Artist Creates Magical Photo Illusions At Disneyland With Paper Cutout Silhouettes
These intricate designs are truly magical
Disney has some of the most devoted fans ever, and the Disney franchise has made sure to include something for everyone. It’s not just movies and TV shows for fans to love, but also toys and magical theme parks that not only bring their characters to life but also create a whole new experience for everyone.
So it feels safe to say that any Disney fan who could regularly visit every Disney theme park, from the Walt Disney World parks in Florida to the Disneyland resorts in California, Paris, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Shanghai, would literally be living the dream. And artist Keith Lapinig is living that dream.
Keith Lapinig is an Interactive Design Manager at Disney, and a significant part of his job requires him to travel worldwide to all the different Disney theme parks. While he’s there, he gets to indulge his own love and admiration for Disney.
He has taken to creating intricate silhouettes out of paper and posing them in related areas to recreate (or to create brand new) scenes that he captures on camera and shares on his Instagram page. For example, one of his very first silhouettes was created while he was at Disneyland Paris; he cut out Maleficent as a dragon and held her up next to Sleeping Beauty’s Castle, creating the illusion of her looming over the castle.
Lapinig has taken on many of the classic Disney characters, as well as some newer ones. He’s shared different designs of Dragon Maleficent, the demon Chernabog on Matterhorn Mountain, facing off with Sorcerer Mickey, along with Elsa and Anna from Frozen, Spider-Man, and even some Star Wars-themed cutouts.
There’s an endless supply of inspiration between the theme parks and characters we know and love, and it doesn’t appear that Lapinig is putting aside this spectacular hobby anytime soon. You can see more of his images below, and if you want to see even more, you can check out his Instagram account.
