Disney Princesses Reimagined By Artist As Magical Elementals According To Their Personality
He’s got the ideas to start with and the talent to make them a reality.
Disney characters have been subjects of artists for a long time. There are many coloring books that kids spend their time coloring outside the lines of, and artists who use their references for practice.
There’s a whole universe of them, even a multiverse present, but Disney princesses hold a special place in artists’ hearts. They have been around for a long time and continue to grow.
Disney princesses have previously existed as characters who needed the saving of their prince charming. They possess pleasantly musical voices and have animals as standard companions.
However, Disney has gradually made the modern princesses self-reliant, strong, and the heroes of their stories. That doesn’t mean we should turn a blind eye to what characters like Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty contributed.
No matter what era they come from, they have been reimagined by artists into different worlds. From princesses in an apocalyptic setting to a universe where the roles are reversed and they’re the villains, it’s all fascinating to see.
An artist who posted on DeviantArt named Joel DuQue has shared Disney princesses reimagined as Elementals. We have an example of one in an actual Disney movie, which is Elsa, but wouldn’t it be interesting to see how others would appear?
There’s something about the scene where Princess Jasmine escapes from the hourglass that screams power, and here she holds control over wind and earth.
Joel DuQueIf Megara were actually the dark element, she could kick Hades off the throne along with those pesky minions he had.
The artist contemplated whether it would be unoriginal to choose Meg as the dark element, but he believes no one fits it better.
Joel DuQueThe princess of Atlantica, or one of the princesses if you count all of Ariel’s sisters, represents the water element.

The process of creating Snow White as the elemental of the moon was quite interesting, as the snow didn’t really fit her for the artist, but it still came out great.

Pocahontas was the first one that Joel thought of, and it was obvious what she would look like, but he was torn between whether she would be 'wood' or 'earth.'
Later on, he decided to assign the title of elemental earth to Princess Jasmine and Kida.

The passion within Mulan was enough to be reimagined as the element 'Fire.' Mushu would be proud, and so would her ancestors.

Rapunzel is known for her glowing hair, but she’s also a ray of sunshine with her positive outlook on life. Being 'Light' is very fitting for her, from the inside out.

The artist chose a non-traditional element for Aurora, which is magic. She is depicted as a fairy, just like her fairy godmothers, and incorporates prominent features from the film, such as the spindle.

Merida from 'Brave' embodies the element 'Love' or 'Heart,' after the artist noted what ultimately got them out of the sticky situation of her mother turning into a bear.

Vanellope’s theme came from her ability to teleport, but it wasn’t easy to put it on paper, as there were 20 sketch iterations before she came to be.

Kida has been an underrated Disney princess, but her strength is honored by being the element of Gemstone. Quoting the artist, he described it as 'strength and shine hidden away underneath the ground.'

Belle represents the element of metal and is manifested in the shape of a somewhat messy candelabra, which also refers to her father’s inventions.

Tiana embodies elements that represent plants, but the artist decided to make her the element of Sound and figured out how to manifest it in his sketch.

The artist is a true fan of the Disney Princesses and made sure to draw them with connections to who they are in the original movies. There were times when he was stuck on how to truly represent them, but he stayed true to what he felt was fitting while drawing.
This project was creative and highly interesting. It deserves a place in the hall of fame for reimagined Disney art.
