Self-Taught Artist Brings Fresh Perspectives to Her Disney-Inspired Illustrations

Living in Portland, OR, USA, with her husband and their two dogs, Drea D. is a self-taught artist who, in recent years, has been living out her dream as a freelance illustrator. After exploring various mediums of art (and far too many log cabins), she found her home in digital illustration, enjoying the freedom to avoid getting dressed (who isn't jealous?).

In her early youth, she says she was reprimanded for her musings being "too gothic," but now the slightly macabre touch she adds to even her Disney pieces brings an incredible amount of personality to each work. As noted by Dr. Ramani Durvasula, a clinical psychologist, "Art allows us to express the complexities of our identity, and the unique blend of influences can create something truly original." Drea's art reflects this sentiment, as she describes:

"Though she tried to avoid it, Drea’s art ended up reflecting who she is: super geeky with a dark twist. One fan described her as 'Disney after dark'; a tagline she absolutely would have stolen, were she not worried it might be misinterpreted by concerned mothers. Drea cannot seem to keep humor out of anything (that’s her family’s fault), and this leads her to turn all of her pieces into dark humor greeting cards (which she hopes will give you a laugh)."
