Since its release on Disney+ in late 2021, Disney's Encanto has taken the internet (and music charts) by storm. Thanks to its incredible story and catchy soundtrack, this movie was well worth the wait.
Viewers have fallen in love with the Madrigal family, and its soundtrack has been the first film soundtrack to hit No. 1 on Billboard's 200 albums chart in more than two years, knocking Frozen II from the top.
While developing, writing, and animating the film took many years, the song creation alone spanned over five years, according to Lin-Manuel Miranda, the composer for the full soundtrack. The time and dedication to writing the soundtrack for the movie are greatly apparent.
From "Surface Pressure" and "The Family Madrigal" to "Waiting on a Miracle" and the wildly popular "We Don't Talk About Bruno," there is no denying that the songs of Encanto are catchy, captivating, and enchanting. The soundtrack has truly elevated this story to a whole new level.
Encanto is Disney's first full-length animated feature to take place in Colombia. Refreshingly, many of the cast members are also Colombian!
Encanto shares the story of the Madrigal family, an extraordinary family who lives in the mountains of Colombia, in a village called Encanto.
Alma Madrigal, the family’s Abuela, found the land after losing her husband while they were fleeing from conflict. Through a miracle, the candle she held onto was infused with magic, granting her a magical home, which became known as Casa Madrigal.
Thanks to this magic, each child in the Madrigal family has been blessed with a unique gift—every child except Mirabel, the main character, who discovered that the magic itself was in danger.
