Man Seeks Advice Online As He's About To Deny His Girlfriend The One Thing She Wants For Halloween

"I suggested us going to another very popular event where we can still do costumes"

Being a grownup is really difficult, as many of us can attest. There are benefits to growing older and being more independent, but there are drawbacks as well, such as increased regulations, obligations, and expectations.

As we become adults, we effectively sign an unwritten contract that specifies what is and is not acceptable as well as what we can and cannot do. We don't say that in an elitist manner, though.

However, some of the things we used to love as kids are a little too extravagant for us to do as adults. The days of playing at the neighborhood playground are long gone.

The days of working at a lemonade stand in the blazing summer heat are long gone. Trick-or-treating nights are long gone and the OP of today's story felt that way but there is an issue though.

OP's girlfriend wants both of them to go trick or treating. Well, the OP is not super comfortable with the idea because his girlfriend is pretty small and is cute enough to get a pass.

OP, on the other hand, is a big dude and the idea of someone opening their door to him and no children just sounds humiliating. The OP doesn't want to be a buzzkill.

He even suggested they go to another very popular event where they can still do costumes but will his GF agree? Your guess is as good as mine.

OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the AH:

I turned down the only thing my girlfriend wanted to do for Halloween because I thought it would be humiliating for me. I think that might make me an AH because many people share the opinion that age is irrelevant on these sorts of things, and that I should be more open-minded. I think they might be the AH because I think the night belongs to the children, and that adults/older teenagers are better off going to parties or parades or handing out candy to make it more enjoyable (and less intimidating) for the young ones.

The OP gave a summary later on and here it is...

A lot of adults were never able to go trick-or-treating as children. They are taking advantage of the chance to participate in a traditional Halloween pastime now that they have greater control over their life.

Denying someone the feeling of Halloween joy is really difficult. Furthermore, it's quite difficult to declare that what they're doing is wrong.

Some things, like trick-or-treating, are only meant to be experienced in the past and Redditors agreed to this, as he was declared not the AH.
