Controversy Erupts When Mormon Mom of Six Tweets Why "Men Cause 100% of Unwanted Pregnancies"
But her argument is rock-solid, and you have to read it.
In the United States, Roe v. Wade affords women the right to seek a safe abortion, but the legal aspect is only a small piece of a very intricate puzzle. Despite women having this right since 1973, discussions about unwanted pregnancies and abortions have never truly ceased. Most people, especially men and extremely conservative women, are all too eager to place the entire burden of responsibility on women. Why? We all know it takes two to engage in the horizontal tango, yet women are the ones heavily tasked with birth control, pregnancy, childbirth, and deciding whether or not to seek an abortion.
Recently, Gabrielle Stanley Blair, a 44-year-old mother of six and California-based author, took to Twitter with a theory of her own. Not only has Blair asserted that men are 100% responsible for unwanted pregnancies, but she also offers solutions and has sparked conversations and discussions all over the world.
In an interview with Bored Panda, Blair explained how this incredible string of tweets came about:
I’ve been working out the thoughts I presented in the article over the last year. I actually wrote the thread about three months ago and then hesitated to make it public — Twitter can be a harsh place, and I worried my family would be attacked.
It was when the Kavanaugh hearings took global center stage that Blair realized her message really needed to be seen by more people.
And if you're wondering what the Mormon Church thinks of her tweets, Blair has this to say:
The Mormon Church has guidelines that include abortion as an option for rape, the health of the mother, etc., and those exceptions can’t happen if abortion is illegal. My interpretation of the Mormon Church’s stance is that it is pro-legal abortion. Other church members may interpret things differently.
Gabrielle Blair
She's Mormon, and she has six kids; there's no denying she knows how this whole pregnancy thing works!
Gabrielle Blair"I've listened to men..."
Boy, haven't we all?
Gabrielle BlairIt's all the men's fault.
No, but really... it is.
Gabrielle Blair
24 Days
That's not a lot of days.
Gabrielle Blair
Birth Control
Yeah, what about it? Oh... I see.
Gabrielle Blair
Side Effects
Men are starting to sound like crybabies.
Gabrielle Blair
Society says:
"We don't actually care if women suffer."
Gabrielle Blair
Back to birth control.
It's problematic, but don't take it away.
Gabrielle Blair
Condoms vs. Women
There are some seriously major differences between the birth control options women have and... condoms.
Gabrielle Blair
Everybody loves to clean up!
Condoms make it easy!
Gabrielle Blair
Oh! That's right.
Remember we already said men were starting to sound like crybabies? It gets worse.
Gabrielle Blair
Selfish much?
Yep, that's men in a nutshell.
Gabrielle Blair
The Pleasure Scale
Mind = Blown.
Gabrielle Blair
How is your pull-out game?
Statistically, pretty strong!
Gabrielle Blair
Well, that all sounds so simple!
Condoms and pulling out are a lot easier than the side effects listed on the birth control insert...
Gabrielle Blair
Here we go again!
There's that whole "slightly" more pleasurable thing from the selfish crybabies.
Gabrielle Blair
But wait, there's more!
It's not just a social conversation. Let's talk SCIENCE!
Gabrielle Blair
On the contrary...
For women, climax and pregnancy do not have to go hand in hand. Nope!
Gabrielle Blair
This is one of my favorites...
Blair really has a way with words. We love it!
Gabrielle Blair
The R Word
Responsibility.
Gabrielle Blair
What the woman decides...
The man doesn't even need to know about?
Gabrielle Blair
The C Word
Consequence.
Gabrielle Blair
Wait a minute.
Each subsequent tweet makes life as a woman seem a little more unfair than the previous one...
Gabrielle Blair
STOP!
The current solutions are not working.
Gabrielle Blair
Mic Drop?
Almost... She's working her way up to it. Don't stop reading now!
Gabrielle Blair
Men really like their testicles.
(Not that I blame them...)
Gabrielle Blair
Castration Laws
Put 'em on the books!
Gabrielle Blair
Risks vs. Benefits
I'm on board; where do I sign?
Gabrielle Blair
Don't get too... cocky.
Insert a "ba-dum-tiss" here, please and thank you.
Gabrielle Blair
Bank that sperm!
There's no need to let it all go to waste before the castrations begin!
Gabrielle Blair
Alright, alright, alright...
Fine, castration sounds extreme. How about an alternative solution that is inexpensive, safe, and reversible?
Gabrielle Blair
Vasectomy > The Pill
Seriously, why is this even a conversation still? Let's do it.
Gabrielle Blair
If and When...
For some men, that's a really, really big if.
Gabrielle Blair
I thought Americans enjoyed medically unnecessary surgical procedures on male infants?
Dear Gabrielle, you're my hero.
Gabrielle Blair
"Don't like my ideas? Fine."
Seriously, we've spent several decades listening to men blame and harass women. Let's hear all the brilliant ideas you have that aren't Blair's and don't include women keeping their legs shut. (Because in case you didn't know, women can still get pregnant with their legs closed.)
Gabrielle Blair
Stop abortion? Prevent unwanted pregnancies.
Without being so controlling and awful to women.
Gabrielle Blair
If you're a man...
Riddle me this:
Gabrielle Blair
Ask Yourselves
What would you do in the name of someone you love?
Gabrielle Blair
"What if"
You're overdue for a few what-if scenarios, men.
Gabrielle Blair
Sad Boy.
Oh well.
Gabrielle Blair
A Simple Solution!
Blair is good at those.
Gabrielle Blair
TO BE CLEAR
Pleasure is pleasure, man.
Gabrielle Blair
Would you be willing?
Historically, you've said no. How about now?
Gabrielle Blair
Simple Solutions Part 2
Condoms and pulling out are your simple solutions!
Gabrielle Blair
Men.
Men, men, men!
Gabrielle Blair
And here it is:
The Mic Drop!
Gabrielle Blair
Thank you, Gabrielle, for laying down the hammer with the ferocity this debate needs.
