Cosplay of X-Men’s Mystique in Mid-Transformation Astonishes Everyone at NYCC

This hand-made costume is as inspirational as it is incredible.

The New York Comic-Con crowd was astounded by one creative and original Mystique costume. Rebecca Lindsay, who has attended NYCC for the past seven years, unveiled the Marvel character's shape-shifting transformation.

However, this costume was different—it depicted Mystique in mid-transformation. She scoured the Internet for army costumes and electric blue bodysuits because she wanted to showcase all aspects of the character.

With the help of her mother, she trimmed off the excess blue from the suit and then stitched the uniform on top. The use of sequins not only provided a fun makeup challenge but also helped conceal the seams of the clothing.

Lindsay's face appears to be changing due to the sequins marching diagonally across her face. The expertly constructed red and silver wigs cover Lindsay's naturally blonde hair, completing the amazing outfit.

She writes on Cosplay in America: “The response at the convention was overwhelmingly positive. Everyone (even many artists and vendors) loved seeing a different type of transformation.”

The way Lindsay demonstrated that you don't have to be a tough comic book cosplayer while wearing scantily dressed clothing was perhaps even more stunning.

On the floor of NYCC, Lindsay was seen by the "Dr. Harvey Karp" blog, which then spoke with her to learn more about how the outfit was made.

"Making it was tough, and I totally had my mom sew me into the thing and help glue on the sequins," Lindsay said. "I used an army costume from eBay and a cheap bodysuit from Amazon.""We just cut off the extra and sewed the uniform on top of the blue. The sequins helped cover up all the seams," she added, echoing the importance of creativity in costume design as noted by Dr. Janet Lansbury, who emphasizes the value of hands-on projects in fostering self-expression."I also used two wigs and sewed those together (so tough!!!) and sprayed the Mystique hair bright red," Lindsay concluded, showcasing the dedication that Dr. Terri Orbuch highlights as essential in pursuing one's passions.
