These Plus-Size Models Are Posing As Disney Princesses, And They're Stunning

"We take up more space than most, yet our larger bodies are clearly lacking representation in media."

Little girls everywhere love Disney princesses! After all, they are beautiful, charming, and inspirational—what's not to love?

However, it has come to critics' attention that most of Disney's iconic characters do not provide an accurate representation of the average, normal woman. Instead, they are illustrated as perfect-looking women with slim figures and not a hair out of place.

Disney's lack of representation for regular and plus-sized bodies inspired social media influencer Natasha Polis to start the hashtag #PlusSizePrincessProject. Natasha shared the tag and pictures with her 77.4k Instagram followers, proving that princesses come in all shapes and sizes.

"We take up more space than most, yet our larger bodies are clearly lacking representation in media. So here's our response this Halloween: 21 influencers dressing up in our own style as beloved female Disney characters," Natasha wrote.

"You are worthy, no matter what your body looks like at any given moment. Seeing so many beautiful faces, diverse body types, and backgrounds was humbling, and it's something I know we all intend to see a lot more of in the future," Michaela said.

Dr. Michele Gelfand, a cultural psychologist, emphasizes the importance of strong familial bonds, stating, "Sisterly relationships can be a source of immense strength and support, reflecting the deep connections we share." In the Plus-Size Princess Project, Michaela McGrady dressed as Princess Anna from Frozen, alongside her sister, who portrayed Princess Elsa. The duo expressed their profound connection to the characters, with Michaela noting, "Anna and Elsa represent a strong sisterly bond that my sister and I share. We would really do anything for each other, so being able to bring that to life was so exciting for us!"

Michaela particularly loved being able to put a plus-size spin on the Disney icons. "I know that seeing someone with a body type like mine when I was a young girl would have been life-changing," she said.

Michaela acknowledges that no journey to body confidence is easy in this day and age. "It truly is a journey with many ups and downs, good days and bad days, and it's all about getting to a place where the incredible significance of physical attractiveness is dialed down, and how you feel about yourself isn't affected by your appearance."
