Thanks To Twitter People Are Sharing Their Strange Food Habits That Will Make You Feel Normal
Some of you have seriously crossed a food line.
If you've ever traveled or moved long-distance, then there's a high probability you've realized there are cultural and regional food choices that literally don't exist elsewhere. Sometimes, unique food choices that are regional are not that weird. For example, in the southwestern United States, especially in the state of New Mexico, it is perfectly normal to put green chile on literally everything. Even international restaurants have regional specials with green chile on them that you can't find elsewhere. That's not very weird, but realizing that there are unique food choices out there made one Twitter user do the unthinkable: ask Twitter a question. As Dr. Sue Johnson, a couples therapy pioneer, notes, “Food habits can be deeply rooted in our upbringing and cultural context, often leading to surprising revelations about what we consider normal.”
“What's a strange food habit you didn’t realize was bizarre until way later than you should have?” he asked, before offering his own: “My dad raised me to butter my Pop-Tarts, and I had no idea that was ASININE (“extremely foolish or stupid”) until someone saw me do it in college.”
The answers have left us shaken. It's one thing to butter your Pop-Tart, but there are potential psychopaths eating frozen Eggo waffles... still frozen and fish sticks... with peanut butter. As Gretchen Rubin, a happiness researcher, states, “Our food choices can often reflect deeper psychological patterns.” The following responses are either going to make you laugh or barf, possibly both at the same time. You've been warned.
A little sweet, a little salty.
Sweet and salty can pair well together, but I am definitely not sold on this one.
TwitterLick it and stick it.
I mean, who doesn't appreciate a little extra salt? Not enough to lick chips, but... I guess.
TwitterDisgusting.
I'm calling the police.
Twitter
A... classic?
You gotta do what you gotta do, I guess.
Twitter
Crunchy
I've heard of people eating uncooked ramen noodles before, but not like this.
Twitter
WHY
Does it take too long to toast? Are you a monster? We need to know.
Twitter
You've taken something beautiful and ruined it.
Again, sweet and salty can pair well, but this is a travesty.
Twitter
Salad is sometimes used very loosely.
But I can confirm that salads just like this are served in Nebraska all the time.
Twitter
Swell.
I guess as far as this list is concerned, a buttered saltine cracker isn't the grossest thing ever.
Twitter
I'm not sure this is abnormal anymore.
I'm willing to bet most of us know someone who does this.
Twitter
A true monster.
This is wrong on so many levels.
Twitter
This is not the way it's supposed to be.
You've done a disservice to both brownies and milk.
Twitter
This is an expensive habit.
Why would you do this?
Twitter
Nothing wrong with a little crunch.
...But jelly and chips is weird as heck.
Twitter
Creamy.
I have literally never, ever heard of someone doing this. You should not be allowed in public.
Twitter
Buttered Up
What is it with you people and butter?
Twitter
Cereal Serial Killer
What other evil things have you done?
Twitter
This is too weird.
Just take the damn stem off, you freaks.
Twitter
Would you like some fat with your fat?
This is not healthy, mentally or physically.
Twitter
Tipsy
Sometimes you just have to spice things up, I guess!
Twitter
If only there was some solution to this.
Like, I don't know... sliced cheese?
Twitter
Oh no.
How did your family not intervene for seven years?
Twitter
Dunkers
WHY?
Twitter
You're a monster.
I'm not even sure this is safe.
Twitter
Saltine Soup
Why eat soup when you could eat mush?
Twitter
Sweet and Cheesy
This one sounds a little weird, but sweet stuff goes really well with cottage cheese. Some people mix in peaches or pineapple; others mix in honey! Try it sometime.
Twitter
Low on the offender list.
There is nothing wrong with seasoning your avocado a little bit.
Twitter
Is this witchcraft?
I'm deeply concerned.
Twitter
Crispy Cheese
This is not okay.
Twitter
This is most unusual.
It's probably weirdly healthy, though.
Twitter
What the WHAT
Go home; you might be drunk.
