Step into a world where Disney meets art history and pop culture in these imaginative illustrations by a talented artist.

In an effort to reignite interest in classical art and make it more accessible, Spanish graphic designer and illustrator Carlos Gromo ( Instagram- carlosgromodraw ) embarked on a creative venture. By seamlessly integrating well-known Disney characters into iconic classical paintings, Gromo seeks to familiarize audiences with both the artworks and the artists behind them.
But Gromo's innovation doesn't stop there. He also infuses his illustrations with nods to popular movies and other elements of contemporary pop culture, offering viewers a fresh perspective on familiar scenes.
Moreover, Gromo explores the evolution of Disney characters by revisiting their original concept designs and reimagining them within the context of classical art. Through his imaginative reinterpretations, Gromo sparks curiosity and appreciation for both the timeless charm of Disney and the enduring legacy of classical masterpieces.
1. Sleeping Beauty

Carlos shared the primary aim of his illustrations, stating, "With respect to the versions that I like to make on paintings of the history of art, my main objective is to help to make them known. There are many great works of art that are not so well known by society, I think that with this I contribute my grain of sand to all those paintings that are not usually known or are not usually studied in schools.
Then, on a personal level, I would like to be able to make a living from my artistic work, so that what since I was a child was a hobby, becomes my livelihood."

3. Robin Hood

The artist reflects on his journey into the world of art, sharing, "From a very early age, I have always liked to draw. I think it is something that has always defined me; all the people who have known me since I was a child have described me with that quality. It was more than a hobby; it was a tool through which I felt comfortable and confident in my day-to-day life.
Studying Fine Arts was one of the most definitive decisions I've made in my life. Additionally, I pursued studies in graphic design."

5. Cinderella, Belle And Snow White

"When asked about the most challenging aspect of creating these illustrations, Carlos shared, 'I think the most complicated thing about creating these illustrations is to be able to keep surprising every day. When you have already made so many illustrations, thinking about the next one always becomes a challenge; you always have to try to improve. Also, another very important aspect is that I like to make my illustrations with a lot of details, that's why they need so much time. Sometimes, I have even been able to take several months to finish some of the illustrations.'"

Carlos shares insight into the topics he covers with his illustrations, stating, "I don't have a specific theme because I like to create a diverse range of work. However, lately, my illustrations related to Disney have received a lot of feedback, especially the reinterpretations of paintings from art history featuring familiar Disney characters. I believe they resonate with people because I carefully select which painting to recreate and which character would be the perfect match. I have a passion for art history, children's illustration, and graphic design for posters."

When asked to describe his style, Carlos reflects, "I find it quite challenging to pinpoint because I'm constantly exploring new techniques and experimenting with fresh ideas. However, over recent years, I've noticed significant evolution, gradually honing in on a style that feels comfortable and satisfying to me. One of the most noticeable shifts has been towards digital techniques, which have opened up a wealth of possibilities in my creative process.
In essence, I would describe my style as cheerful, colorful, distinctive, original, and meticulously detailed. These are the descriptors often used by those who follow my work closely."

Carlos shares what keeps him motivated to push forward: "I believe that achieving small challenges or goals instills confidence, but ultimately, what fuels my drive is a genuine passion for what I do. Additionally, the affection and support I receive from the public on a daily basis are invaluable. The art world is complex, with its share of highs and lows, requiring perseverance and consistent effort. Knowing that each day I connect with someone, somewhere in the world, who appreciates my work is a gratifying feeling.
Like everyone, I also experience moments of creative block that hinder productivity. In those times, the best remedy is to step away, take a walk, or listen to music to recharge. Often, these blocks stem from fatigue, and after a break, creativity tends to flow more freely."
