It's important to feel like your boss has your back. There's nothing worse than working for someone who you know doesn't really care about you, and even worse, someone who will go out of their way to ensure you're in an unhappy workplace.
Usually, these individuals have a lot of issues in their own lives, and the power and control they wield at work is the only respite they get. That's sad, but it doesn't mean that you deserve to have your life ruined for their therapy. This is a story just like that. This woman needed the day off as she was throwing up all morning; when this request was denied, she decided to go to work so they could see just how sick she was.

Just as she made contact with the deputy who made her come in, the sickness reared its ugly head again.

It sounds like it wasn't necessarily the company, but rather the prerogative of the deputy manager to act in such a cruel way.
I, for one, will be using this tactic next time the boss doesn't believe that I'm actually sick. The internet had a bit to say about the situation as well.
