Utility Company Demands To Speak To Dead Home Owner, Daughter Obliges

The death of a family member is never an easy time. There's so much work that has to go into the immediate aftermath of their passing, and the hardest part is that while you are grieving, you need to get all of these things done.

Wrapping up an estate, even when it is a clean, simple process, is still a lot of work, and if there is a messy family situation, it can be downright traumatizing.

Reddit user Gloria shared a story about this very experience when her father passed away on Father's Day in 2012, and she had to cancel the utilities for his house.

“I’m pretty sure that it started out as someone just making a clerical error in filing the death certificate. When you combine a mistake with a lack of caring as a whole, you get a bunch of people who are just there for a paycheck,” 

Gloria said.

“In trying to get the matter handled, I was passed around to so many different people that I lost count. Not one person ever really took the time to listen to what I was trying to say to them. Not one person said, ‘Oh. Wait. He’s dead? I understand. Let me get this to the correct department.’ They just kept insisting on speaking with the account holder,” “I knew that it would be shocking for her to see his ashes. I knew that she would finally shut the hell up and listen. I hoped that after someone stood up to her and put her in her place, she would change her ways and hopefully treat the next person better.”

“My dad was right there with me in spirit and would have approved of using his ashes to fight back,”

In her emotional state, she simply did the most effective thing to get where she needed to go.
