50 Nostalgic Posts About The 80s On 'The Ultimate 80s Page' That Today's Youth May Not Relate To
It was such a wonderful and weird time
There is no denying that we are no longer the young and trendy generation we once were. Nevertheless, we still do not feel ancient, but a recent walk down memory lane has left many of us feeling a bit nostalgic for the simpler times of our youth.
Thanks to Facebook's "The Ultimate '80s Page," which boasts a whopping 2.7 million followers, we have been able to relive some of the most iconic moments of our childhoods. From classic toys such as the Rubik's Cube and My Little Pony to unforgettable TV shows like The A-Team and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, the page has it all.
Not to mention, who could forget about the legendary fashion trends of the '80s, such as neon colors, shoulder pads, and leg warmers? And let's not forget about beloved snacks like Dunkaroos and Tang.
It's no wonder why so many millennials can't get enough of this page—the nostalgia is simply irresistible. We may no longer have the same interests and priorities we once did, but we can still look back on those carefree days with fondness and appreciation.
It's a time when life seemed much simpler, and happiness could be found in the smallest of things.

According to Lauren McMenemy, a professional writer, journalist, and writing coach who runs workshops and training to help people improve their writing skills, the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions the 1980s is often the stereotypes: "neon, big hair, shoulder pads, power ballads."
However, she believes that the 1980s were much more complex than these clichés would suggest. It was an era that encompassed a multitude of experiences and perspectives. She said: “There was indeed that breakout fun, bright and fluffy, everyone's excited angle—but there was also the ‘Greed is Good’ angle, the Wall Street tycoons, the money-at-all-costs mentality that really started to dominate at this time (and still does).”

From Lauren's perspective, what made the '80s—aka her childhood—stand out was the feeling of excitement and discovery, especially as technology began to seep into people's homes. It was an era that marked the introduction of home computing consoles such as Nintendo and Atari. Therefore, for her, as a child, it was undoubtedly the most wonderful time.

Since the '80s style, from clothing to music, has been making a comeback in recent years, we asked Lauren why she thinks this bygone era has such enduring appeal. Lauren believes that there isn't anything unique about the '80s driving this resurgence. “As humans, we are inherently nostalgic, and there seems to be a trend where we go back every 30 and/or 50 years.” In fact, Lauren argues, “In the '80s, we were obsessed with the '50s. In the '90s, it was the '60s, and so on. It's a long enough time lapse that we can remember things with rose-tinted glasses.”

We also inquired about Lauren's favorite thing from the '80s, to which she enthusiastically responded, "Back to the Future. Without a doubt, it's my all-time favorite movie. And it's a perfect combination of '80s and '50s nostalgia!"
Furthermore, she confessed to having a soft spot for hair metal and power ballads. Put on "The Final Countdown" by Europe, and she won't be able to resist singing along at the top of her lungs.
