50 Nostalgic Posts About The 80s On 'The Ultimate 80s Page' That Today's Youth May Not Relate To
It was such a wonderful and weird time
A 28-year-old woman refused to let the 1980s be reduced to one single vibe, and honestly, we get it. Sure, the internet loves the easy version, neon thrills, catchy jingles, and summer movie energy. But Lauren kept pointing out that the decade was doing more than just looking cool in a denim jacket.
In her telling, the same years that brought breakout fun and bright, fluffy excitement also carried the “Greed is Good” swagger, Wall Street tycoons, and a money-at-all-costs mentality that never really clocked out. And while she’s talking about the complicated side, she’s also remembering the simpler kick of discovery, when home computing consoles like Nintendo and Atari started creeping into households, turning childhood into a constant “what’s next?” moment.
Now here’s the part where her favorite thing from the era, Back to the Future, explains why the nostalgia hits so hard.

However, she believes that the 1980s were much more complex than these clichés would suggest. It was an era that encompassed a multitude of experiences and perspectives. She said: “There was indeed that breakout fun, bright and fluffy, everyone's excited angle—but there was also the ‘Greed is Good’ angle, the Wall Street tycoons, the money-at-all-costs mentality that really started to dominate at this time (and still does).”

That’s why her “everyone’s excited” 80s memories and the “Greed is Good” money talk can sit in the same story, not fight each other.
From Lauren's perspective, what made the '80s—aka her childhood—stand out was the feeling of excitement and discovery, especially as technology began to seep into people's homes. It was an era that marked the introduction of home computing consoles such as Nintendo and Atari. Therefore, for her, as a child, it was undoubtedly the most wonderful time.

Since the '80s style, from clothing to music, has been making a comeback in recent years, we asked Lauren why she thinks this bygone era has such enduring appeal. Lauren believes that there isn't anything unique about the '80s driving this resurgence. “As humans, we are inherently nostalgic, and there seems to be a trend where we go back every 30 and/or 50 years.” In fact, Lauren argues, “In the '80s, we were obsessed with the '50s. In the '90s, it was the '60s, and so on. It's a long enough time lapse that we can remember things with rose-tinted glasses.”

Furthermore, she confessed to having a soft spot for hair metal and power ballads. Put on "The Final Countdown" by Europe, and she won't be able to resist singing along at the top of her lungs.
