Tower of Terror’s Rod Serling Voice Just Gave Disney World Fans a New Reason to Watch the Ride
A new Imagineering visit and ongoing hotel refurbishment have Disney World fans wondering if Tower of Terror could get updates.
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror has been one of Disney’s Hollywood Studios landmarks since 1994, and now fans have a fresh reason to pay attention. A new clue tied to the attraction’s signature narration surfaced while exterior work continues on the Hollywood Tower Hotel.
The new clue is not a Disney announcement
The latest spark came from Mark Silverman, the performer who recreated Rod Serling’s voice for Tower of Terror. Silverman recently visited Walt Disney Imagineering’s headquarters in Glendale, California, and shared the visit on Instagram.
Interest grew when he answered a fan who asked if Disney guests might hear something new from him. His reply was brief, but it was enough to fuel questions about whether Disney could be working on fresh material connected to the attraction.
That connection matters because Silverman has been part of Tower of Terror since before it opened. Serling had died in 1975, so Imagineers needed someone who could convincingly recreate his narration. Carol Serling selected Silverman after auditions, and he recorded the ride’s dialogue in a three hour session at Imagineering’s Glendale facility. Disney then paired that audio with existing footage of Serling for the library preshow.

Why Tower of Terror fans are watching closely
Tower of Terror opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on July 22, 1994. Inspired by The Twilight Zone, the attraction takes guests into the Hollywood Tower Hotel, a once-luxury property said to be frozen in time after a mysterious Halloween night incident in 1939. The experience builds through the eerie hotel setting, the library sequence, and the elevator ride system that delivers its signature drops.
Unlike many long-running Disney attractions, Tower of Terror has largely kept the identity that made it famous. That is why even a small hint tied to its narration has drawn attention from fans.

What is actually changing, who it affects, and when
One change is already visible. Disney has been carrying out exterior refurbishment on the Hollywood Tower Hotel during 2026, with scaffolding appearing on parts of the building. Additional scaffolding was reported in August, and work expanded to the back of the structure in September.
For guests visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2026, that means the attraction’s exterior may look different while maintenance continues. What it does not mean, at least yet, is a confirmed update to the story, preshow, or ride experience.
Disney has not announced new narration, a revised storyline, or any major overhaul for Tower of Terror, and no date has been given for any possible internal changes. For now, the only confirmed update is the refurbishment already underway, while Silverman’s visit remains an intriguing tease rather than a confirmed new chapter for the ride.
