AITA for choosing game night over Valentines Day with my girlfriend?

AITA for choosing game night with my boys over Valentine's Day plans with my girlfriend, sparking a debate on priorities and relationship compromise.

Valentine’s Day drama is usually all roses and awkward compliments, but this one started with something way less romantic: game night. A 22-year-old guy says his girlfriend knew about his weekly Friday tradition, and he figured she’d treat February 14 like any other date night he’s already scheduled.

Except she didn’t. His girlfriend got “really upset” when he told her he wanted to play with his buddies on Valentine’s Day, and she even asked him to reschedule their V-Day date. To him, it’s simple, Fridays are his guys’ night, and Valentine’s Day is just another day. To her, it apparently wasn’t.

Now he’s stuck wondering if picking the controllers over the candlelit plans makes him the asshole.

Original Post

My gf (21F) and I (22M) have been together for almost 4 years now and everything has been great. Next Friday is Valentine's Day but Fridays have always been my game night with my buddies and my gf is well aware of it.

She got really upset when I told her I want to play with my boys on Valentine's Day and even asked her to reschedule our V-Day date. V-Day is just another day, I don't see why she would be so upset when I asked to reschedule our date.

What should I do? AITA here?

It’s a lot like the friend debating whether to tell her best friend’s crush about secret feelings.

His girlfriend is already aware that Fridays belong to his buddies, so her reaction hits harder than a missed raid invite.

When he refuses to change game night on Valentine’s Day and suggests rescheduling the date, the whole vibe flips fast.

The conflict becomes less about the date itself and more about whether his “just another day” attitude counts as effort.

With February 14 looming and his usual routine locked in, he has to decide if he’s protecting a tradition or sidelining his girlfriend.

He might not be the villain, but he’s definitely risking his relationship over one Friday.
