AITA for Denying Friends Request to Bring Toddler to Work Meeting?
AITA for telling my friend she can't bring her toddler to our work meeting? Redditors weigh in on the clash between professionalism and parenting.
A 28-year-old woman refused to let her friend bring her toddler to an investor meeting, and now the friendship is on the rocks. It sounds simple, until you picture a startup, a room full of investors, and one little kid who is not exactly built for “quiet, focused, high-stakes conversation.”
OP works at a startup with Jess, 27, and they have had this meeting with investors scheduled for weeks. Jess asked at the last minute to bring her toddler, Sarah, because daycare shut down unexpectedly. OP tried to be kind, but warned it might not be ideal. Jess showed up anyway, and during the meeting Sarah was fussy, spilled juice, and interrupted something important.
Now OP is stuck wondering if she went too far, or if Jess crossed a line that couldn’t be undone.

I (28F) work at a startup with my friend 'Jess' (27F). We had an important meeting scheduled with our investors for weeks.
Jess asked if she could bring her toddler 'Sarah' to the meeting since her daycare was unexpectedly closed that day. I was torn because I know childcare can be tough, but this meeting was crucial for our company's future.
I kindly explained to Jess that it might not be ideal to have Sarah there due to the nature of the meeting. Jess got upset, saying I was being insensitive and that Sarah is well-behaved.
The day of the meeting, Jess showed up with Sarah anyway, and throughout the meeting, Sarah was fussy, spilled juice on the table, and even interrupted an important discussion. After the meeting, I told Jess that bringing Sarah was disruptive and unprofessional.
Jess got defensive, accusing me of lacking empathy. I felt caught between supporting my friend and maintaining professionalism.
So, AITA?

OP thought her “it might not be ideal” warning would land softly, but Jess heard “insensitive” instead.
The day of the meeting, Jess brought Sarah anyway, and the investor-focused agenda immediately got derailed by juice and interruptions.
After the meeting, OP called it disruptive and unprofessional, which is when Jess flipped from annoyed to accusing.
Now Jess is painting OP as the empathy-less villain, while OP is stuck defending professionalism in front of investors.

OP might not be the bad friend, but she sure got stuck holding the bag for Sarah’s chaos.
