AITA for Objecting to Unequal Rent Split with Friends Partners Moving In?

AITA for questioning rent split after friends invited partners to live with us without consultation? Partners not contributing but expect equal share - seeking perspective.

A simple rent agreement turned messy fast for one 28-year-old renter who thought four friends were splitting an apartment fairly. Then two roommates brought their partners into the home, and suddenly the math, and the mood, changed.

According to the post, Alex and Sam moved their significant others in without asking the other two roommates first, but still expected everyone to keep paying the same share. That left the original poster wondering why the extra people were getting the benefit of the space without helping cover the cost.

Now the question is whether OP is being unreasonable for pushing back, or just the only one willing to say what everyone else is thinking. Read on.

Original Post

I (28M) have been renting an apartment with three friends, Alex, Sam, and Taylor for the past year. We agreed to split the rent and utilities evenly to keep things fair.

But recently, Alex and Sam decided to invite their significant others to move in without consulting me or Taylor. This means more people sharing the space but they still expect us to split the costs equally.

I feel it's unfair since their partners aren't contributing to rent. I brought this up, but they insisted that it's a package deal.

I'm considering either asking for a rental adjustment or finding a new place. Am I being unreasonable here?

Really need outside perspective.

This also echoes the roommate who got caught subletting behind your back and still expected an equal rent split.
