AITA for Refusing Friends Cat in Pet-Friendly Apartment?

AITA for denying my friend's cat entry to my pet-friendly apartment complex, causing a rift with mutual friends over the decision's morality?

A 28-year-old woman refused to let her friend’s cat stay in her dog-only apartment, and now everyone’s acting like she personally broke the laws of hospitality. The whole thing started as a simple favor, Emily needed a week-long place to stay while her home got renovations done, and OP figured it would be fine as long as Whiskers stayed in one room.

But Whiskers is not a chill “just ignore it” kind of cat, she’s highly allergic to humans, and her dander didn’t stay polite. Several neighbors ended up with severe allergy reactions, complaints hit management, and OP had to step in and ask Emily to find another place for the cat.

Now Emily is calling OP heartless, mutual friends are split, and OP is stuck wondering if she went too far by protecting her dog-friendly building from a cat problem.

Original Post

So I'm (28F) currently living in a lovely pet-friendly apartment complex with my two dogs, Max and Luna. We've settled in well and enjoy the community vibe here.

However, my friend Emily (30F) recently reached out to me, asking to stay over for a week due to some home renovations. The issue is, Emily has a beautiful but highly allergic cat called Whiskers.

I reminded Emily that my apartment complex is explicitly for dogs, not cats, due to potential issues. She pleaded, promising to keep Whiskers solely in her room.

I felt conflicted but agreed to let her stay with Whiskers for a week. However, it didn't go as planned.

Whiskers' dander triggered severe allergies in several neighbors, leading to complaints to the management. I had to ask Emily to find alternative accommodation for the cat.

She was upset, insisting it was only for a short time and that I was heartless for not accommodating her. Now she's avoiding me, and our mutual friends are split on who's at fault.

AITA?

It’s the same kind of clash as the sister with an aggressive pet who got refused entry.

Emily promised Whiskers would be locked to her room, but OP’s dog-only lease rules were already the first red flag.

The moment neighbors started complaining after Whiskers’ dander triggered allergies, the “just for a week” excuse stopped sounding reasonable.

When OP had to tell Emily to move the cat out, Emily flipped from grateful guest to offended friend fast.

With Emily avoiding OP and the mutual friends taking sides, OP is left holding the fallout from Max and Luna’s apartment.</p>

Now OP’s wondering if she really should have risked her whole building’s allergies just to keep Emily happy.
