Teenager Abruptly Leaves a Halloween Party Early to Avoid a Creepy Man Who Wants to Make Her Straight, but She Got Her Friend in Trouble in the Process
OP attended a party with her friend, got followed by a creep, and then their moms showed up.
Our OP (original poster) is a 17-year-old girl who attended a Halloween party with another female friend of the same age. For the sake of anonymity, OP called her friend Martiza.
Martiza picked up OP from her house, and about five minutes before arriving at the rager, Martiza told OP that she wouldn't be going home and would probably spend the night at the host's place.
OP was blindsided by the sudden change of plans because she didn't bring her own vehicle, and their original agreement was that OP would drive the two of them home. The night wasn't starting out great for OP.
It was Halloween night, so OP knew she had to shell out $121 just to get home or call her mom to pick her up. OP chose to call her mom.
This was OP's best choice because her awesome parents told her that she can call them anytime she needs, and they won't hold it against her. Her mom would also be mad if she spent that much on a cab.
Martiza and OP arrived at the party around 8:30 PM, and a few moments later, OP saw someone she didn't feel comfortable with. OP attends community college and recognized a guy from her French class.
This guy is 24 years old, and as much as OP tried to avoid him, he followed her around the party. Martiza was nowhere in sight, leaving OP alone with the creepy person.
OP did her best to stay away from this guy, whom she calls 'Mark.' Despite OP's best efforts to say no to him, he continued to pursue her. OP is also gay and has no interest in dating someone that old.
Mark knows that OP is gay, but he told her he wants to "make her straight." Around 9:30 PM, OP had enough. She called her mom to come pick her up and told her everything, leaving out creepy Mark.
OP texted Martiza about her plans, but she wasn't responding, so OP decided to look for her. Forty minutes later, OP found her doing shots, and Martiza told her to say goodbye before she left.
Mark managed to find OP while she was outside waiting for her mom. OP tried to walk away, but Mark kept following her, even as OP could see her mom's car approaching.
When OP's mom recognized her, she got out of the car and pulled Mark forcefully by the collar to get him away from OP. The big surprise was that Martiza's mom was also there, and she didn't know Martiza was going to a party.
Martiza's mom went inside and began yelling her daughter's name. OP didn't know Martiza had lied. Now, Martiza is being punished and has lost her car and phone privileges.
Martiza is now ignoring OP at school. She's also upset that OP wasn't punished in the same way she was. OP doesn't know what to do and thinks she could have handled the situation better. Is she the a**hole?

People think that Martiza is being petty because she lied and got caught

If you want your friend to cover for you, the least you can do is let them in on the lie

OP has nothing to feel guilty about

Agreed, OP is very wise and made all the right decisions that night

It was time for Martiza to learn that her actions have consequences

Martiza is being unreasonable for holding a grudge against OP

OP's mom sounds really awesome

As for the creep, commenters think that OP should inform the school about his lurking ways

"Make her straight" is a euphemism for something sinister

Martiza may not know it yet, but it was a good thing her mom showed up

Maybe OP should distance herself from Martiza

Yikes, Martiza doesn't sound like a good friend.

Also, way to go OP's mom for backing up your daughter's claims about Mark!

The things that we learned from this story are: if you're going to lie, lie better; Martiza sounds like a bad friend; OP's mom is amazing, and OP has great instincts and knows how to stand up for herself.
Hopefully, OP doesn't run into Mark ever again because that guy has issues! We also hope that Martiza has learned something from this lesson. Go on Reddit when you get your phone back, please.
