Am I the Jerk for a Low-Key Valentines Day?

AITA for not planning a grand Valentine's Day? Opinions differ on whether low-key efforts were thoughtful or fell short of expectations in this relationship dilemma.

Valentine’s Day is supposed to be simple, right? But one guy’s “low-key but thoughtful” night spiraled into a full-on argument when his girlfriend said his effort felt insulting.

He’s 23, she’s 21, and they’ve been together for two years. For the holiday, he invited her over, brought a rose, gave her a Pandora charm, ordered Chinese takeout, and they watched Netflix, including Training Day. Sounds cozy, but the plan hit a snag when he got handsy afterward, she pushed him off, and told him not tonight because she’s mad at him for the “low effort” Valentine’s plans.

Now he’s stuck wondering if he really messed up, or if she just wanted a bigger, more expensive show.

I'm m23 and my gf is f21, we've been together for 2 years and for v day I told her to come to my place and I bought her a rose and a pandora charm and I ordered chinese takeout so we could eat and watch netflix. After we were done eating and watching Training Day, I was getting handsy with her and she pushed me off and told me not tonight because she's pissed at me for the low effort valentine's day plans.

And how I couldn't even make a res at a restaurant or get her something better than 1 rose and a pandora charm and said I'm an a*****e. I thought the night was nice, I did put thought into it I think.

AITA?

He thought a rose, a Pandora charm, Chinese takeout, and Netflix was a solid Valentine’s setup, but his girlfriend was already judging the whole thing in her head.

After they finished eating and watched Training Day, the mood turned awkward fast when he tried to get physical and she shut it down.

That’s when she brought up the part he didn’t do, like making a restaurant reservation or “getting something better,” and labeled him an a*****e.

So now the same guy who planned a calm night at his place is wondering if his effort was actually the problem, not the handsy moment.

How would you handle this situation? Let us know in the comments.

He might have meant well, but Valentine’s Day can turn one “nice” plan into a relationship test in minutes.
