Am I Overreacting for Refusing to Let My Friend Feed My Allergic Cat?

AITA for refusing to let my friend feed my allergic cat, despite her insistence that it's harmless treats?

A 28-year-old man refused to let his friend feed his severely allergic cat, and it turned into a full-on drama the moment tuna hit Luna’s plate. Luna, his sweet little cat with strict food allergies, is on a prescribed diet where “just a bite” can mean real consequences.

His friend, Meg, knew the rules. Or at least she said she did. After a visit last weekend, OP caught her trying to sneak Luna tuna, then the next day she allegedly went back for chicken, calling it a harmless treat and arguing that OP is being too strict and a “bad cat dad.”

Now OP is stuck defending Luna’s safety while Meg’s telling mutual friends he’s controlling, so here’s the full mess.

Original Post

So I'm (28M) and I have a beautiful cat named Luna with severe food allergies. She's on a strict diet, and any deviation can lead to serious health issues.

My friend, Meg, knows about Luna's allergies, and I've reminded her multiple times not to feed Luna anything besides her prescribed food. Meg visited last weekend, and I caught her trying to sneak Luna a piece of tuna.

I lost it and told Meg that Luna can't have that due to her allergies. Meg seemed apologetic but the next day, I saw her trying to give Luna a bit of chicken.

I firmly told her to stop, but Meg got upset and argued that it's just a little treat and won't hurt Luna. She even went on about how I'm being too strict and a bad cat dad for not letting Luna enjoy some variety.

I explained again how severe Luna's allergies are, but Meg sulked for the rest of her visit. When she left, she sent me a long text about how I should trust her more and that Luna deserves a bit of excitement in her diet.

I stood my ground, which led to Meg telling some mutual friends that I'm overreacting and too controlling. But I feel responsible for Luna's well-being and won't let anyone jeopardize that.

Am I being too harsh by refusing to let Meg feed Luna, especially when she insists it's harmless treats? So AITA?

It also echoes the situation where a friend got upset after you refused to bring her cat on vacation.

OP had already warned Meg multiple times about Luna’s food allergies, and somehow she still tried to sneak tuna during her visit.

The chicken incident the very next day was the moment OP’s patience finally snapped, because “a little treat” was no longer theoretical.

After OP told Meg to stop again, Meg sulked through the visit, then flipped it into a “trust me” lecture over text.

When Meg told mutual friends OP was overreacting and controlling, the cat wasn’t the only one dealing with drama.</p>

What do you think about this situation? Let us know in the comments.

If Meg can’t follow Luna’s diet rules, she’s not being treated like a guest, she’s being treated like a risk.

Meg sneaking tuna for Luna sounds similar to when a roommate wanted to share allergy food.
