Baker Gets Called A Jerk For Pricing Their Cakes So High, But Here's The Reason For Their Overpricing

She wanted to discourage people from asking her to make cakes, but there's more to it.

Turning your hobby into a business can be a bittersweet experience, especially when it comes to the dilemma of whether or not you are pricing your products correctly. There is also the problem of dealing with certain "friends" and relatives who always seem to ask for discounts, and often insist on it.

You may have heard the saying, "Do what you love, and you will never work another day in your life," and you may have tried to live by it at some point in your life. However, there is also the notion that people should keep their hobbies separate from their actual jobs as much as possible so that they never get old and do not spoil the fun.

That being said, when people try to pressure you into doing your hobby, sometimes it’s no longer worth it, especially when you have more important things to do. When that happens, one must take action before things spiral out of control.

A Reddit user under the handle @cakedupp3, however, was called a jerk for taking steps to prevent things from getting out of hand; the story involves her hobby as a baker and a relative who was unwilling to pay her high prices and did not want to purchase a cake from a chain store either.

To be fair, she did not even intend to monetize her hobby in the first place and tried to avoid it entirely. However, the number of people who wanted her to bake their cakes grew, and to prevent it from becoming a full-time commitment, she decided to raise her prices so they would deliberately stop "bothering" her.

Indeed, her plan worked, but at the cost of some people's frustration. And by some people, I mean some members of her family.

The author then resorted to posting her story in the r/AmITheAsshole community on Reddit to see if she is the bad guy in this situation. Read on to find out if you think she is!
