Couple Drops £680,000 On World Cruise That Still Hasn’t Left Port—Gives Sneak Peek Inside Their Floating Home

They are ready to embark on a 15-year journey around the globe.

A couple just dropped a staggering £680,000 on a world cruise, and here’s the plot twist, the ship still hasn’t left port. Johan Bodin and Lanette Canen are living the “floating home” dream, except their floating home is currently parked and waiting, with the Belfast departure date stuck in limbo.

To make it even more complicated, the cruise liner has 485 cabins and can hold up to 800 passengers, but Johan and Lanette are sharing their own tight cabin life while they wait. Villa Vie Residences founder Mikael Petterson insists it will depart “any day now,” while the couple, who sold their Maui car rental business, keep posting updates on their YouTube channel, “Living Life on a Cruise,” including tours of their space and how they’re handling the downtime.

They may be stuck at the dock, but the cabin tour is turning into something way bigger than a vacation story.

Although Mikael Petterson, founder and CEO of Villa Vie Residences, is confident that the ship will depart from Belfast, Ireland, "any day now," he admits it's "impossible to say which day exactly.

In the meantime, Johan and Lanette, who sold their car rental business in Maui, Hawaii, to embark on this expensive adventure, have been sharing their experiences on their YouTube channel, 'Living Life on a Cruise.' They've given viewers an inside look at the ship and, more importantly, their new home on the water.

While Mikael Petterson promises “any day now” from Belfast, Johan and Lanette are busy showing viewers what their day-to-day looks like in a smaller-than-expected cabin.

Life on a cruise ship can evoke mixed feelings for passengers, particularly when expectations clash with reality.

Instead of just sitting there, the cruise company has been sending them on short trips to places like Italy, Croatia, and Slovenia, which makes the delay feel less brutal.

Despite admitting that their living space is on the smaller side, Johan and Lanette are thrilled with their cabin.

'But yeah, the room looks pretty good,' Johan shared. 'There's some laundry and stuff we have to take care of, but yeah, most of our stuff is in the closets.'

He went on to explain that while their cabin isn’t spacious enough for overnight guests, their friends and family will have their own cabins when they visit, making the experience enjoyable for everyone.

Regarding the delay in setting sail, Johan told Business Insider that Villa Vie has kept them entertained with short trips to destinations like Italy, Croatia, and Slovenia. 'We understand there are hiccups,' he said.

And if you think delays are stressful, this is the kind of chaos that happens when a mother-in-law tracked her wife’s location after a private surgery exposure.

Johan admits the room isn’t built for overnight guests, but he also points out that family and friends will get their own cabins when they finally come aboard.

'They're schmoozing us a bit to keep us happy. They're almost being too service-minded. I don't need to be pampered all the time,' shared one passenger, hinting at the overly attentive hospitality onboard.'Some people may think we're naive, but Villa Vie has our support 100 percent. We would be kicking ourselves if we didn't take this opportunity and go for it.'

Amid the skepticism, there’s no shortage of excitement, as someone else chimed in;

'Wow, what a great idea! No cooking, no cleaning, no need to drive.

Even with all the pampering and the schmoozing, some passengers side-eye the service, while Johan and Lanette keep leaning into the experience like they already know they’ll be glad they paid.

As the Odyssey prepares for its grand departure, passengers like Johan and Lanette find themselves caught between eager anticipation and luxurious indulgence.

While the ship may still be docked, the promise of a life of adventure, free from daily chores, keeps spirits high. After all, who wouldn’t want to swap their routine for a world tour with endless pampering?

The journey hasn't begun, but the excitement is already sailing.

The staggering delays experienced by Johan Bodin and Lanette Canen serve as a poignant reminder of the complexities involved in both financial planning and personal relationships. Spending £680,000 on a luxury world cruise, only to remain docked for months, can test even the strongest partnerships. These circumstances highlight the importance of open communication and flexibility in navigating unforeseen challenges.

As they prepare for their anticipated 15-year journey aboard the Odyssey, embracing adaptability and mutual support will be crucial. Rather than viewing this situation solely as a setback, Bodin and Canen have the opportunity to transform it into a unique bonding experience. Their ability to find meaning in the journey itself, even while still at port, underscores the notion that sometimes the experiences along the way can be as enriching as reaching the final destination.

If the ship never moves, Johan and Lanette might still feel like they won, but the cabin tour will be the real main character.
