Woman's Brother-in-law Got Mad After She Breastfed In Front Of His Kids
'If I have to breastfeed inside, then you have to go and be insufferable somewhere else, sweetie.'
With all the misogyny that women face, their rights get buried under egos and misconceptions—misconceptions held by men who think they have permission to create laws regarding women’s bodies or to control women in general.
One specific issue that they seem to have a problem with is breastfeeding in public places. It’s a natural act for women to breastfeed their child when he or she suddenly becomes hungry.
Feeding their baby would be at the forefront of their thoughts. Besides, it’s not inappropriate to breastfeed.
However, some men find it indecent whenever they see women breastfeeding in places where they think it shouldn’t occur. There are times when they are unnecessarily vocal about it, too.
A subreddit story serves as a perfect example of these issues. OP and her husband recently had a baby, but even before that, she had been experiencing problems with her brother-in-law.
Whenever OP does something that he doesn’t agree with, he ends up saying, “If you were my woman…” They usually brush it off, but one time it really got on OP’s nerves.
They were to attend a party that her in-laws were hosting, so she asked for permission to breastfeed during the event whenever she needed to. They were okay with it, but when it happened, it became a problem for her BIL, who started with the usual comment that triggered OP to respond to him.
Here’s how OP clapped back
Large_Situation6641When OP had their baby, they tried slowly introducing him or her to more people, and when her FIL’s birthday party came up, they decided to bring their baby.
Large_Situation6641For more context about the problem between the BIL and OP, here’s how he treats her.

Despite thinking that the BIL might have a little crush on OP, he and the SIL have two kids.
Large_Situation6641
OP had already asked for permission before the party if she could breastfeed without having to go somewhere private, and the in-laws gave her the go-ahead since they let SIL breastfeed wherever, too.
Large_Situation6641
When OP’s baby got hungry, she began breastfeeding, which the kids started to notice and pointed out to their parents. BIL asked OP to go inside because of this, but OP refused.

The brother sat close to OP and started with his common line of “If you were my woman…” but this time OP snapped back. BIL got mad while SIL and MIL both agreed that what OP did was wrong.

Maybe he'd be caught off guard and answer honestly.

If you say this loudly enough, there's a good chance that it could be stopped, and the tables wouldn't be turned if he lies.
PeteyPorkchops
OP has had the patience of a saint if she's kept her mouth shut all this time.

Does SIL experience it and think it's normal?

People were turned off from the start when they read what the BIL always says to OP.
Sensitive-String-284
Since the BIL was worried about his kids being exposed to the act of breastfeeding, here's a little story to help understand what it means to them.

Once their questions are answered, they would likely move on.

Redditors appreciated the crocodile story a lot.
EmmetyBenton
They are both confused and confusing.
Suspicious_Clerk499
It's basically a baby having their meal, which is very natural.
patchgrabber
This Redditor grew up without others making breastfeeding an issue.
Radkeyoo
If you explain it properly to kids, they will see it as you say it.
ThatDuckIsAStatue
If he keeps insisting that OP would change if she were 'his woman,' then it's time to let him know that it wouldn't go his way.

"If you were my woman."

Kids are naturally curious. They have endless questions, which is normal since they're growing up in an environment they don't yet understand.
It's up to parents and adults to explain things to them so they can learn. It's their responsibility to teach kids what's appropriate and what's not.
So if you let them think that something shouldn't be discussed or seen, that's what they'll grow up to know. There can be a lot of things that will be perceived as bad, but breastfeeding shouldn't be one of them.
