Childfree Woman Challenges People's Motivations For Parenting
"I answered the comment using my own experiences and feelings."
Dominique Baker, a fashion and beauty influencer with a huge online following, didn’t plan to become a debate headline. But one mean comment in a viral post turned into a full-on breakdown of why people’s “childfree” assumptions are so off-base.
The comment basically claimed there had to be some hidden reason behind her choice not to have children, and Dominique was tired of it. She said she gets these digs almost daily, and this time she decided to clap back, using her own experiences and feelings instead of staying quiet.
And once she explained what she thinks is really driving the hostility, the internet comments stopped sounding random and started sounding personal.

That viral post is where Dominique Baker finally snapped back instead of ignoring the same “real reason” jab she said she hears every day.
When she said the assumption is hurtful and “tired” of being repeated, the whole conversation shifted from her choices to the people judging her.
This is the same kind of pressure-cooker conflict as the vegan announcement that sparked chaos at Sunday dinner.
Dominique says: “I get these comments almost daily across my platforms. The best approach for dealing with these types of comments is to not engage at all. That particular comment was one I would constantly receive, so I thought it was time to stand up for myself and other childfree people and address it.”“I answered it using my own experiences and feelings. It’s a really hurtful assumption, and I was tired of being asked that.”

Dominique pointed at society’s expectations, like women getting married early and prioritizing family needs, which is where the hostility seems to come from.
Dominique added: “For a long time, I was pretty bewildered by the hostility! I think it may be a combination of ‘childfree women bucking the rules’ and this false sense of a woman’s duty to procreate and continue a lineage.” She explained how these individuals tend to think.“Our society expects women to get married early, immediately have children, and primarily tend to their families' needs. I also think that some people may question their own decision to start a family. They may feel resentful of that decision when they realize that they had to make a lot of personal and financial sacrifices to do so… and then see a childfree person being okay with not making those sorts of sacrifices. This could make a resentful parent jealous and angry.”

Then she tied it to resentment and projection, saying some parents may look at her and feel jealous, angry, or questioned about their own sacrifices.
