Christopher Abbott Clears Up His Marvel Timeline: Professor X Starts With X-Men, Not Doomsday
Christopher Abbott says he is not in Doomsday and will begin his Marvel run as Charles Xavier with the X-Men reboot due in 2028.
Christopher Abbott has answered one of the first big questions that followed his Marvel casting. The actor says fans should not expect him to show up in an immediately upcoming MCU film, because his path to Charles Xavier begins with the X-Men reboot.
What changed for Marvel fans
Abbott said plainly that he is not part of Doomsday. He added that he has to make the X-Men movie first, making his Marvel timeline much clearer after the announcement that he will play Charles Xavier, also known as Professor X, in the reboot planned for 2028.
That matters for fans who were already wondering whether Marvel might fold him into a nearer-term project before the new X-Men film arrives. Abbott shut that down directly, while also making clear that he is excited about taking on the role. His comment leaves little room for reading between the lines: his first stop is X-Men, not a different Marvel title before it.

Why the update lands in a busy year for Abbott
The clarification arrives during a stretch that has already brought several major milestones for the actor. In February, he received his first Tony Award nomination for playing Biff Loman in the revival of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman. In late July, he and partner Aubrey Plaza, who is also an actor, welcomed their first child, a daughter.
Audiences have also recently seen Abbott in East of Eden, the Netflix miniseries adaptation written by Zoe Kazan. The eight-episode take on John Steinbeck's novel casts him as Adam Trask opposite Florence Pugh as Cathy Ames. Abbott described working with Pugh as a pleasure and said he values actors who are fully present in a scene.
He also spoke about filming the series in New Zealand and said he would check Knicks games on lunch breaks as a way to lighten the mood during a production built around heavy material. When the conversation turned to fatherhood, Abbott said the experience is still very new and called it amazing, while keeping most family details private.
For Disney and Marvel watchers, the headline point is simple. Abbott's Professor X is coming, but not in Doomsday. His Marvel debut is set to begin with the X-Men reboot due in 2028.
