Hollywood Studios turned back the clock for one night with Starcruiser Saja and Citizens of Hollywood
A private Hollywood Studios buyout brought back Citizens of Hollywood, Galactic Starcruiser Saja and Founders Day details.
Disney's Hollywood Studios quietly staged an unusual callback on October 20. During a private evening buyout, the park featured the return of the Citizens of Hollywood, Galactic Starcruiser Saja characters, live music and Founders Day touches that longtime fans had not seen in regular operations.
The special event took place during a park buyout for Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo 2026. Disney's Hollywood Studios closed at 5 p.m., and the conference used the park from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Tuesday.
Highlights from the night included entertainment spread across the park. Multiple bands performed for attendees, and a DJ was set up in front of the Chinese Theater. The event also brought back the Citizens of Hollywood, the roaming street performers once closely associated with the park, along with several Saja characters from the former Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience. Some of those moments appear in the Instagram clip below.
Another themed element from the evening was Founders Day. Banners were displayed, and characters wore sashes as part of the observance.
A Starcruiser callback that stood out
For Star Wars fans, the Saja appearance was especially notable because these were characters guests had not seen in a few years. On the Halcyon starcruiser, the Saja trainers were best known for leading lightsaber training.
Their backstory connects to the lore around Jedha from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. In that story, the Empire destroys the Jedi temple on Jedha, which had been protected by the Guardians of the Whills. Survivors of that group were scattered across the galaxy but remained committed to preserving knowledge of the Force. According to the Starcruiser storyline, descendants of those guardians became known as the Saja, found safe haven aboard the Halcyon, and used one of its training pods to teach the ancient art of the lightsaber.
The Saja were not presented as Jedi. Instead, they were described as people who could sense the Force in others and help them discover their own connection to it.
Why the Citizens of Hollywood return mattered
The return of the Citizens of Hollywood added another layer of nostalgia to the private event. For years, they were a daily live street act at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Their short improv performances changed from set to set and could take the form of a game show or a maintenance crew routine. Guests were often pulled into the action during the 15 minute shows.
They had been part of the park's entertainment lineup since 1989, which is why their absence stood out after Disney's Hollywood Studios reopened in July 2020 following the Covid-19 shutdown. Many people had hoped the roaming performers would come back.
Instead, the group was let go in October 2020 as entertainment layoffs affected the company. That history made this one-night reappearance, alongside the Starcruiser Saja and the Founders Day details, feel like a rare look at corners of Disney's Hollywood Studios entertainment that regular guests do not currently encounter during normal park hours.
What these acts are
Citizens of Hollywood was a roaming street comedy troupe built around improvised encounters. Instead of waiting in a theater, guests would spot performers along the main boulevard and nearby streets, often with short bits, mock interviews, or crowd interaction. The appeal was spontaneity. A visit could feel different depending on where you stood and how long you lingered.
Saja refers to Force focused performers from the immersive starship hotel experience. They were designed to deepen the story world through movement, ceremony, and occasional lightsaber moments rather than through a standard stage show.
How to catch this kind of entertainment
Streetmosphere and pop up character style acts usually reward patience more than a strict schedule. If this sort of entertainment is offered, arrive with a little unplanned time, stay near high traffic walkways, and ask cast members whether any roaming performances are expected. The park app or daily entertainment listings can help, but these appearances may be brief or loosely timed.
For the best experience, keep walkways clear, be ready for performers to interact directly, and have a phone or camera handy. If a set draws a crowd, standing slightly off center often gives a better view and easier exit than pushing to the front.
