Clever Graph Shows The Most Common Birthdays In The US

Is there really a 'mating season' for humans?

Some birthdays get all the attention, and this chart makes it easy to see why. A Reddit user pulled together official birthday data and turned it into a color-coded map of the year, showing which dates show up most often in the US.

The result is part trivia, part holiday-season joke, with September standing out as the busiest month and a few major holidays landing near the bottom. If you have ever wondered whether your birthday is common or rare, this graph has the answer.

And yes, the calendar may be telling on a few winter celebrations.

Reddit user u/BoMcCready created this incredible chart that shows all the days of the year color-coded by the number of birthdays.

The blue days are more common, while the yellow days are less common. The grey dates are average.

For the data nerds among us, the numbers in each box show the margin by which the birth rate exceeds or falls short of the average—which is 1. Values greater than 1 indicate more popular dates, whereas lower values signify less common dates.

There are relatively more birthdays in the US summer months, from June through October.

The pattern gets pretty obvious once you look at the calendar.

The most common month is September-approximately nine months after the holiday season. Coincidence?

The least popular birthdays include December 24th and 25th (Christmas), January 1st (New Year's Day), and the US Day of Independence (July 4th).

This takes into account people being induced or having C-sections, who often have a bit more choice in the date!

That holiday overlap is hard to miss.

It’s also like the AITAH debate where a friend asked someone to delay a pregnancy announcement for an engagement.
