Daughter Sees Her Dad After 8 Years and Asks If She's in the Wrong for How She Reacted to Seeing Him
Everyone's family dynamic is different, but this one is just a little more complicated than your everyday family dynamic.
A daughter seeing her dad again after eight years would be emotional enough on its own, but this reunion turned tense fast. Instead of a warm family moment, she was left questioning whether her reaction made her the bad guy.
The story comes from Reddit's AITA community, where she explains what happened when her father reappeared after years away and how the rest of the family responded. Her mom and sister did not see things the same way, which only made the situation more complicated.
Now the family is split, and the comments are full of strong opinions. Here's the full story.
Here's the start of the story, and she gives us a little bit of background.

I have to agree with this, suggesting maybe their mom wasn't exactly over him.

One of the top comments summed it up perfectly because this whole situation is a little odd.
It's definitely a red flag for him to show up as if nothing happened after 8 years.

The tea on this is that he probably wasn't as present even when he was there.

I agree with this a lot. It's showing signs of abandonment issues, which is why they are quick to forgive him.

The mom and sister should totally understand where OP is coming from, but they don't.
This inheritance bomb is similar to the family that found a hidden will and sparked a fight over grandmother’s decision.
This is true. If he did it once, then he will do it again.

People are starting to speculate on why he may have 'left' or whatever is really going on.
His response should have been an apology.

Again, another comment telling OP that she's not the AH.
Everyone seems to agree that OP is NTA.

He is definitely re-abusing them, unfortunately.

Just because they want to see him doesn't mean you should feel obligated to.

He's not a 'dad,' and he doesn't deserve that title.

My heart goes out to all people who are dealing with some sort of abuse, family problems, drama, or any other situation where your home or family life isn't even close to perfect. Situations like this are difficult to read and even more difficult to imagine being a part of.
What do you think about this? Do you agree with the Reddit comments?
Was she wrong to react that way?
Wondering if she was wrong after seeing her dad after 8 years, read the AITA mom who excluded her father from graduation after he chose work.
