Daughter Sees Her Dad After 8 Years and Asks If She's in the Wrong for How She Reacted to Seeing Him
Everyone's family dynamic is different, but this one is just a little more complicated than your everyday family dynamic.
Family is very important to most of us, and where we came from, along with how we were raised, really affects how we conduct ourselves as adults. We all come from different family dynamics and backgrounds, but sometimes it's not necessarily a picture-perfect dynamic.
Many people experience conflict and turn to Reddit for advice. This is especially true with the "Am I The A**hole" subreddit.
Today, we will be looking into another Reddit post on the AITA thread, but this one focuses on a family situation where the daughter is wondering if she is the one in the wrong or if everyone else is. It's hard to know exactly what people are feeling unless they tell you, and this is exactly what this daughter did; unfortunately, the response wasn't what she expected.
This story starts off by providing details about the family and what happened with her dad, but then it goes into explaining details about their visit, and this is where it starts to get a little rocky. Overall, we can all agree that reading about other people's family drama is both saddening and entertaining.
We're going to look into this story to see what exactly happened and get a first look at some of the best responses left by Reddit users on this thread. Let's hop right into this!
Here's the start of the story, and she gives us a little bit of background.

I have to agree with this, suggesting maybe their mom wasn't exactly over him.
YourMainManJesus
It's definitely a red flag for him to show up as if nothing happened after 8 years.
PatientPear
One of the top comments summed it up perfectly because this whole situation is a little odd.
Hot_Pot8os
The tea on this is that he probably wasn't as present even when he was there.
OggyTheKing
I agree with this a lot. It's showing signs of abandonment issues, which is why they are quick to forgive him.
hellowur1d
This is true. If he did it once, then he will do it again.
sisterfister69hitler
His response should have been an apology.
FunDare7325
The mom and sister should totally understand where OP is coming from, but they don't.
clarinet87
Everyone seems to agree that OP is NTA.
SandrineSmiles
People are starting to speculate on why he may have 'left' or whatever is really going on.
MysteriousWays10
He is definitely re-abusing them, unfortunately.
HotAlternative7372
Just because they want to see him doesn't mean you should feel obligated to.
AggravatingPatient18
Again, another comment telling OP that she's not the AH.
dog_star_
He's not a 'dad,' and he doesn't deserve that title.
Natz2103
People had strong feelings about how the mom and sister reacted.
Gracie1994
I'm sure they are hurting, and so they are projecting their hurt onto her.
needs420hookup
Many people like this choose to leave whenever things don't go their way.
UnusualRedFlower979
This is exactly how he expected it to go, and he was mad when it didn't go that way.
ExcitingChange2007
Misplaced anger is the most frustrating.
JesusSufferingFeck
My heart goes out to all people who are dealing with some sort of abuse, family problems, drama, or any other situation where your home or family life isn't even close to perfect. Situations like this are difficult to read and even more difficult to imagine being a part of.
