David Beckham says kids are ‘allowed to make mistakes’ in new interview released after Brooklyn's savage post

A compelling story about david beckham says kids are ‘allowed to make mistakes’ in new interview released after brooklyn's savage post

David Beckham just dropped a surprisingly calm take on parenting right after his son Brooklyn lit the family drama on fire. In a new interview released Tuesday, the retired soccer star addressed the fallout from Brooklyn’s savage Instagram post, where the 26-year-old claimed he’d been “silent for years” and tried to keep everything “private.”

But privacy clearly didn’t win this round. Brooklyn went further, alleging David and Victoria “tried endlessly to ruin his relationship,” turning a long-running feud into full-blown internet chaos. Beckham, meanwhile, appeared on CNBC’s Squawk Box, refused to answer questions from Sky News while in Switzerland for the World Economic Forum, and still managed to talk about social media, UNICEF, and what kids learn from messing up.

The wild part is how quickly the conversation shifted from family accusations to one line about mistakes, and it says a lot about where this story goes next. David Beckham speaking in a press interview about parenting and mistakes

Main Story

David Beckham has said kids are 'allowed to make mistakes' amid bombshell comments made by his son, Brooklyn, on Monday (January 19).

The 26-year-old claimed in a shocking Instagram post that he had been 'silent for years' and made every effort to keep the family feud 'private'.

That’s when Beckham’s CNBC appearance kicked in, right after Brooklyn’s Instagram claims about keeping the feud “private” blew everything up.

Key Point 2

Brooklyn made a series of allegations against his parents, David and Victoria, including that they 'tried endlessly to ruin his relationship'.

After Brooklyn's post last night, Beckham appeared on CNBC's Squawk Box program in an interview released today (January 20).

Key Point 3

He said: "I have always spoken about social media and the power of social media... for the good and for the bad.

"But what I have found personally, especially with my kids as well, use it for the right reasons."

Key Point 4

Beckham noted: "I’ve been able to use my platform for my following, for UNICEF. And it has been the biggest tool to make people aware of what’s going on around the world for children."

The retired soccer player then added: "And I have tried to do the same with my children, to educate them.

Key Point 5

"They make mistakes, but children are allowed to make mistakes. That is how they learn.

"You sometimes have to let them make those mistakes as well."

Beckham’s “social media for the right reasons” line lands differently when Brooklyn is the one using Instagram to air grievances publicly.

Key Point 6

While in Switzerland for the World Economic Forum, Beckham was asked about Brooklyn's comments by Sky News. However, the 50-year-old refused to answer, the news outlet reports.

Brooklyn's bombshell claims shocked the internet in what was the latest escalation in the long-running feud.

Part of his statement stated: "I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed."

It continued: "I do not want to reconcile with my family. I'm not being controlled, I'm standing up for myself for the first time in my life.

Key Point 8

"The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into. Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they'll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade.

And while he was in Switzerland at the World Economic Forum, Beckham still dodged Sky News questions about Brooklyn’s post, keeping the tension simmering.

Key Point 9

On April 9 2022, Brooklyn and Nicola got married in a lavish ceremony in front of 500 guests at her family's estate in Palm Beach, Florida, two years after getting engaged.

Just months after the wedding, media sources were starting to report on a 'full-on cold war' between Nicola and her new mother-in-law.

Key Point 10

Reports also claimed much of the feud came from Nicola's decision to wear a Valentino wedding dress instead of a piece designed by Victoria's fashion house, but they appeared to quash these rumors.

Key Point 11

In March 2023, the Beckhams seemed to be happier than ever and were posing for photos at Victoria's Paris fashion show.

Two years on, it was reported that Brooklyn and Nicola had snubbed David's 50th birthday party at Cipriani Downtown Miami.

The whole thing comes back to Beckham’s quote about kids being “allowed to make mistakes,” right in the middle of a family feud that refuses to stay quiet.

Key Point 12

And then, just days later, TMZ claimed that Brooklyn and brother Romeo weren't speaking due to a fallout over Romeo's girlfriend, Kim Turnbull, who had a 'romantic connection' with Brooklyn 'several years ago'.

Cruz later insisted that Brooklyn and Kim had never actually dated, and in May of 2025, Brooklyn and Nicola were nowhere to be seen as the birthday celebrations for David continued.

Key Point 13

The following month, David and Victoria are reported not to have attended the Peltz-Beckham vow renewals.

And by December that year, it was reported that Brooklyn no longer followed his parents, and they no longer followed him, and the youngest brother was quick to set the record straight.

Key Point 14

Cruz wrote on his Instagram Stories about the claims that he and his family had unfollowed Brooklyn: "NOT TRUE. My mum and dad would never unfollow their son … Let's get the facts right.

In January 2026, it was claimed that Brooklyn sent a 'legal letter' to his parents, insisting they only contact him via his lawyer; a rule which Victoria is believed to have broken when she 'liked' an Instagram post he made about a roast chicken.

Key Point 15

In a shock statement posted on his Instagram Stories on January 19, Brooklyn made some bombshell claims about his family, which included how his parents have tried to 'ruin' his relationship with Nicola, have always 'controlled' his life, and how 'Brand Beckham' comes first before anything else.

The internet wanted receipts, but Beckham’s biggest message was that even his kids are allowed to mess up, whether the damage is private or not.
