Man Shares Neighbor's Reaction After Wanting To Eat The Duck He Accidentally Killed
"If I'm paying $200 for a duck... you better believe I'm gonna eat it"
Your pet is not just a pet. To you, he or she is like a child.
You understand how devastating it can be if you've lost a pet—you've lost a family member. Your cherished pet is no longer with you, regardless of whether it was another pet, someone driving down your street or someone carelessly playing with a firearm.
In fact, you might be able to take someone to court or file a lawsuit. You can bring a civil case against the person who killed or harmed your pet, regardless of whether it was intentional or the result of carelessness.
To recover any damages, however, there must be sufficient evidence of malevolent intent or some level of negligence. Your state's regulations can have a significant impact on the kind of compensation you receive and the amount that is permitted, but what if the animal in question is a duck?
Yes, a duck can be a pet, but what if it was killed unintentionally? Well, this brings us to today's story, and it's quite a funny one.
OP's neighbor raises ducks and sells their eggs. This morning, when he was leaving for work, one of his ducks ran onto his property and right under his truck.
Unfortunately, the duck didn't make it, and the neighbor demanded compensation. The OP agreed to pay, but the neighbor demanded the dead duck as well, and that's not happening.
The OP kicks off his story saying...
RedditThe OP picks up the duck and starts to take it to his garage refrigerator
RedditThe OP had to ask the neighbor if he wants the duck or the money

OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the AH:
I want to eat my neighbor's duck I accidentally ran over. He said the duck is his kids' pet. I paid for the duck.Let's head into the comments section and find out what other Redditors have to say about the story

From a Redditor who believes the OP is a mild AH
YTA, mildly. What if this was a pet dog? Wouldn’t you pay to replace it and also let the kids bury their pet? I get that you (and many others) look at pet ducks and dogs differently, but this family sees the duck as a pet and the idea of you eating it as no different than had it been their dog.The duck can't be that high in price
Reddit
It's either the duck's a pet or a livestock

The math is definitely not adding up

In the comments, the OP revealed that the neighbor's kids are like 19 and 22 so they're literally not kids anymore. Also, the OP doesn't think he legally owed his neighbor anything.
