Disney+ Lands Death Stranding Isolations: New Kojima Anime Set for 2027
Disney+ will stream Death Stranding Isolations in 2027, a new anime story set in Hideo Kojima's game world.
Disney+ has picked up an unexpected new anime project for its lineup. Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding is getting a series called Death Stranding Isolations, and it is scheduled to arrive on the streamer in 2027.
The key update is simple: Death Stranding Isolations is coming to Disney+ in 2027. Announced at Disney's APAC Showcase, the series gives Disney+ subscribers and Death Stranding fans a new story set in Kojima's game universe, rather than an animated retelling of the two existing games.
The show is set in the world of Death Stranding, but it follows different characters facing that world's isolation in their own ways. That makes the Disney+ release a fresh entry point for viewers who know the games and for those meeting the franchise through animation first.

In the clip below, Kojima Productions offers a first teaser for the series ahead of its 2027 debut.
The official story places the anime somewhere in North America as Sam Bridges moves across the continent to save America. At the same time, other people are confronting isolation from very different angles: an old man seeking salvation outside the kind of connection Bridges promotes, a female warrior trying to begin a world of constant fighting, a boy carrying a grudge against Bridges, and a girl who accepts loneliness. Their hopes and fates come together as another Death Stranding story begins.
The series uses traditional hand-drawn 2D animation throughout. Disney's earlier description of the project also said it centers on characters trying to survive in this world while connecting with others doing the same.

Death Stranding Isolations will be produced by E&H Production and directed by Takayuki Sano, with original character designs by Ilya Kuvshinov. Hideo Kojima is serving as an executive producer. E&H was founded four years ago by Sunghoo Park, whose credits include Jujutsu Kaisen, Zombie Land Saga and The God of High School. The studio also worked with Adult Swim on Ninja Kamui, which has already been renewed for two more seasons.
At the APAC Showcase, Kojima said Japanese anime helped shape his worldview and that he agreed to work with Disney after the company approached him. The new series is also separate from another anime project, Death Stranding: Mosquito, which Kojima announced this year. Beyond animation, a live-action Death Stranding movie is in the works with A24 and director Michael Sarnoski. It has not been revealed whether Norman Reedus or any other cast members from the games will return for that film.
