Tokyo Disneyland’s Jungle Cruise Is Closing for Weeks, and the Timing Is Raising Bigger Adventureland Questions

Tokyo Disneyland will close Jungle Cruise on Jan. 6, 2027, through March 31, with reopening expected in April.

Tokyo Disneyland has set a long refurbishment for Jungle Cruise: Wildlife Expeditions, taking one of Adventureland’s best known attractions offline at the start of 2027. On its own, that would be a routine park update, but the timing is drawing extra notice because Jungle Cruise has already appeared in long range redevelopment concepts for the area.

Jungle Cruise: Wildlife Expeditions will close at Tokyo Disneyland on January 6, 2027. The attraction is scheduled to remain unavailable through March 31, 2027, and operations are expected to resume in April.

No details have been released about the work planned during the shutdown. For guests, the immediate change is simple: the Adventureland boat ride will be off the table for nearly three months.

Jungle Cruise has been part of Disney parks since Disneyland opened in 1955, and the Tokyo Disneyland version has operated since April 1983. Its biggest overhaul came in September 2014, when it reopened as Jungle Cruise: Wildlife Expeditions with updated music, lighting and special effects, plus a nighttime version of the experience. The current ride sends guests on a roughly 10 minute trip past animals including elephants, crocodiles and lions.

It is not the only Tokyo Disneyland attraction due to close in early 2027. Splash Mountain is set to shut from January 7 through February 4, and Haunted Mansion will close from January 8 through February 4 while its holiday overlay is removed.

Why this closure is getting more attention than a normal refurb

The unusual part is not that Jungle Cruise is closing, but that its longer downtime lands after Tokyo Disney Resort operator Oriental Land Company outlined a 2035 long term management strategy in April 2025.

Concept art released with that plan showed a heavily reworked Adventureland. Several existing attractions appeared to be missing, including Jungle Cruise: Wildlife Expeditions, Western River Railroad, Swiss Family Treehouse and the Enchanted Tiki Room. In their place, the art suggested possible additions tied to Disney and Pixar films such as Up, The Incredibles and Moana. One Up themed area resembling Paradise Falls seemed to use land now occupied by Jungle Cruise and Western River Railroad.

Those images were presented as preliminary concepts, not confirmed projects, and no permanent closure for Jungle Cruise has been announced.

Still, scrutiny increased after Aquatopia at Tokyo DisneySea was confirmed for permanent closure in April 2026 and welcomed its final guests on September 14, 2026. Aquatopia had also been absent from the 2025 concept art for a redesigned Port Discovery. Japanese media then questioned whether Jungle Cruise and Western River Railroad could eventually face similar outcomes.

A special Jungle Cruise offering that ran from July 2 through September 14, 2026, with altered expeditions and commemorative stickers, added to the talk, though it was never described as a farewell. For now, the only confirmed change is the refurbishment: Jungle Cruise goes down January 6, 2027, and is expected back in April.
