Encanto’s Next Disney Update Is Not a Sequel. It’s a Bigger Park Presence in Florida
Producer Yvett Merino says Disney has had no talks to greenlight Encanto 2. The franchise’s confirmed next expansion is in Florida in 2027.
Fans waiting for Encanto 2 have a clear update, and it is not a sequel announcement. Producer Yvett Merino says Disney has not had any discussions about greenlighting another film, even as Encanto continues to grow in the parks.
No movement on an Encanto follow-up
Merino, a creative executive at Walt Disney Animation Studios and the producer of Encanto, said there have been no conversations about approving a second movie. She shared the update while promoting Disney’s newest film, Hexed.
She also made clear that her affection for Encanto has not changed. Merino said the movie is especially important to her because it was the first film she produced and because it centered a Latino family. Her latest comments line up with what she said in 2023: she is open to more from that world, but there is no sequel in motion at this time.
For fans, that means the current change is really a fresh status check. Interest in a return to the Madrigal family remains, but Disney is not moving ahead with Encanto 2 right now.

Where Encanto is expanding instead
While there is no sequel plan, Merino pointed to a different kind of growth for the franchise. She said she is excited about a casita being built in Florida in the parks, along with an attraction tied to Encanto.
That expansion is part of Tropical Americas, which is set to open in 2027. The new area will include the fictional village of Pueblo Esperanza, a wood-carved carousel called El Carrusel de los Animalitos, and Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto. That attraction is set on the day Antonio receives his gift of speaking to animals, and it will feature the original movie cast.
The same land will also bring other changes. DINOSAUR is being reimagined as Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent, with Harrison Ford serving as the model for the character on a ride for the first time. A new playground is also planned for the land.
The idea of an Encanto sequel still has supporters. John Leguizamo, who voiced Bruno, said last year that he would love to see another film. The latest confirmed direction, though, is a park expansion, not a new movie.
