Disney's First 2027 Carousel of Progress Clues Are Now on Display at Hollywood Studios
A new Hollywood Studios exhibit previews Magic Kingdom's reimagined Carousel of Progress before its late spring 2027 return.
Disney has opened a new preview stop for Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress, and it answers some of the biggest questions about the attraction's overhaul. Inside Walt Disney Presents at Disney's Hollywood Studios, guests can now see how the Magic Kingdom classic is changing before its planned late spring 2027 reopening.
The preview finally shows what Disney changed
The new exhibit inside Walt Disney Presents, next to the live action Ariel meet and greet, includes physical costumes, scale model dioramas, and full color concept art tied to the reimagined show. It also confirms that the updated attraction will begin with a new prologue inspired by the 1964 television special Disneyland Goes to the World's Fair.
That opening scene places guests on a virtual TV soundstage, where a life sized Audio Animatronics figure of Walt Disney introduces the experience and talks about human innovation before the theater rotates into the first act.
The biggest creative shift is the timeline. Instead of keeping its early 1900s, 1920s, and 1940s settings, the attraction now moves forward to Act I in 1969 during the Apollo 11 moon landing, Act II in 1985 at an 80s era Halloween, Act III in 1999 as the family gets ready for New Year's Eve on the edge of Y2K, and Act IV in a distant future with an off planet home inspired by John Hench.
The display also offers a close look at two costumes. John, the father, wears a bright yellow sweater over a multicolored turtleneck with khaki pants for the 1969 scene, a design that draws from his look in the original New York World's Fair finale. Sarah, the mother, appears in the future scene in a yellow and blue dress over beige pants. Dioramas show John in a kitchen with Rover, and Sarah seated near a sunken conversation pit and sleek fireplace.
Who it affects, and when it takes effect
For Walt Disney World visitors, the change is immediate at Hollywood Studios and later at Magic Kingdom. Anyone visiting Walt Disney Presents can see the preview now while the attraction itself remains closed at Magic Kingdom. Carousel of Progress has been closed since July 5, 2026, and Disney says it is set to reopen in late spring 2027.
The update also affects how the show will sound. Bryan Cranston will voice John, while Jamie Lee Curtis will voice Sarah. Even with the new eras and cast, Disney is keeping several defining pieces in place. "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" remains the central song, and both Rover and Uncle Orville are still part of the show.
Disney has described this as the most significant reimagining in the attraction's 60 plus year history, and the exhibit makes clear why. The theater in the round is not just getting refreshed scenes. It is getting a new opening, a new timeline, updated Audio Animatronics, and a version of progress meant to feel familiar to contemporary guests.
