Disneyworld Exposed: How Much Truth Is In The Parks’ Most Common Rumors
Some of the Disneyworld rumors out there are funny, but some of them really make me wonder about people's state of mind.
Walt Disney World has been around for nearly 50 years, and with millions of visitors passing through its gates every year, it has picked up plenty of rumors along the way.
Some of the stories are harmless, some sound wild, and a few have a surprising amount of truth behind them. From fingerprints to frozen legends, the park has inspired more than a few myths.
Here are some of the most common Disney World rumors, and the truth is not always what people expect.
Rumor 1: “They aren’t serving turkey legs. They’re emu legs.”
False.
The massive turkey legs served at Disney come from farmed male turkeys, which is why they are so large. Emus are gigantic birds, slightly smaller than ostriches, so an emu leg would be the size of your leg. Another argument is that it would be a massive violation of the law, and the company would face criminal prosecution and civil lawsuits if it mislabeled food.
Delish.comRumor 2: “Disney needs your fingerprints so they can trace you.”
Also False.
Fingerprints are collected only to prevent ticket fraud, ensuring that only you can use your Disney Parks ticket. As soon as they scan your finger, they assign a number to you and delete the print. However, if you are not willing to do this, there are potential ways to avoid it. Check Disney’s privacy FAQs here.
That rumor has been around for years.
Rumor 3: “Disney cast members aren’t permitted to say no.”
False.
The Disney cast members can say no. This rumor probably started because of their training. They are taught to say “no” gently, without really saying it. When they are unable to comply with guests' requests, or if it is not in line with company policy, they will not say “no” sharply, but will instead phrase it more diplomatically.
DisneyRumor 4: “Main Street and Cinderella Castle are optical illusions.”
This one is true.
If you stroll down from the Main Street train station to Cinderella Castle, the walk can seem longer than it actually is. Disney architects used forced perspective on the Main Street buildings and the Castle. Forced perspective is employed in many locations across all Disney Parks to make relatively small spaces appear larger. The best place to see how big The Magic Kingdom really is would be the observation deck in the California Grill.

Some of these myths are more believable than others.
Rumor 5: “Additional country pavilions will be included in EPCOT’s World Showcase.”
Could be true, but not confirmed.
There are no new nations planned for now, but there is space for at least three new pavilions throughout the World Showcase. Back in the 1980s, EPCOT visitors were anticipating pavilions for Spain, Israel, and Equatorial Africa. Since the addition of countries is a possibility, this rumor will remain in the air because people genuinely want it to be true.

Best one: “Walt Disney is frozen, and they are keeping him under the castle.”
Absolutely not true.
That is an outrageous lie. Walt Disney lies next to his beloved wife, Lillian, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale.

That one still refuses to die.
