Bad Tips Can Affect Delivery Time — DoorDash Driver Claims And Shows An Order That's Been Waiting For More Than An Hour To Be Picked Up
No tip - your food waits...
One DoorDash driver’s TikTok turned a routine pickup into a conversation about tipping, wait times, and why some orders sit longer than others. In the video, she showed a McDonald’s order that had been ready for more than an hour, and the reason was tied to the tip, or lack of one.
The driver, Sto Rmy (@seasonedcaucasion), said she understood why some customers skip tipping, but wanted people to see how that choice can affect when food actually gets picked up. The order kept getting declined, and DoorDash’s payout system slowly nudged the offer higher until someone finally accepted it.
That left the customer’s meal waiting, and the comments quickly filled with people who had seen the same thing happen before. Read on.
A DoorDash driver recently posted a TikTok about an order that lingered for an hour at a McDonald's before she picked it up.

seasonedcaucasionThere was a bunch of food.

The driver used to work at McDonald's.

And she could see that the meals were prepared at 12:15.

She was surprised to hear how long the meals had been waiting.

And then she realized:

More than an hour? Only one thing could cause that...
seasonedcaucasion
Yes.

No tip! The base pay for a delivery is just $2. Drivers will first make deliveries with good tips.

Because they have to prioritize to make money.

Her video went viral:
She followed up to clear things up.So she released another one to clarify:
Customers agree to a delivery fee and set the tip when they place an order at one of the restaurants on DoorDash. The app then sends orders to drivers who have signed up for it.
Once an order is accepted, someone drives to the restaurant to pick it up and deliver it to the customer. DoorDash's base contribution for each order is called base pay.
Depending on the projected time, distance, and attractiveness of the order, it normally ranges from $2 to $10. Dashers are paid more for deliveries that require them to travel a greater distance, are likely to take longer, and are less popular among Dashers.
This number remains constant regardless of how much the customer tips.
DoorDash no-tip delays are a different mess, but it’s still like the host who charged friends for a luxurious dinner without warning.
People in the comments knew exactly what she meant.People commented on the video:

People who work in delivery knew what the Dasher was talking about.

Seems fair.

Companies can always afford to pay more, but they don't...

Another Dasher confirms:

The idea is good, but the companies will never go for it...

You want service, you have to pay...

However, if the reward is too low and Dashers aren't interested in carrying it out, the payout increases by $0.50 each time a Dasher declines the order. So, it will ultimately be large enough for a vehicle to pick it up.
The issue is that the food inside is just waiting until that happens. Maybe the company should consider increasing the base payout for drivers.
But it's the customers who have to raise their voices...
