What changed

Duplass has been cast in Victoria, the limited series created and written by Christy Hall. He joins the previously announced Li Jun Li and Diane Lane.

In the series, Duplass will play William Holbrook, a UC Berkeley professor whose gene editing work has made him highly sought after in Silicon Valley. The character is also known for mentoring young scientists, earning strong loyalty from his students.

That role places Duplass inside the show’s larger world of wealth, influence and ambition. Victoria is set among San Francisco’s elite and is described as an erotic thriller centered on Maxine Tao, played by Li. Maxine is a con artist who becomes entangled in a dangerous network of power and luxury, while also facing a seductive killer who knows her secrets. A chance encounter pulls her into the high-stakes venture capital scene and gives her what is described as the grift of a lifetime.

Who it affects and what else is set

The casting expands a core lineup that already includes Lane as Lee Calloway, a venture capitalist who is used to getting what she wants and is not willing to let anyone stand in the way of a win.

Behind the camera, Hall is attached as writer, showrunner and executive producer. Geeta Vasant Patel will direct the pilot and executive produce. Lilly Burns, Elise Henderson and Tony Hernandez are also executive producers for Counterpart Studios, while Li is serving as co-producer. The project comes from Onyx Collective and Counterpart Studios.

For viewers tracking the cast, Duplass arrives with a recent run that includes The Morning Show, which brought him Emmy nominations in 2020 and 2024. He also co-created HBO’s Togetherness with Jay Duplass and most recently appeared in the horror film Backrooms.
