Employee Leaves Store Open Overnight Because of Irresponsible Co-workers and Manager
"Do not tell anyone about last night."
A late shift can turn stressful fast when the next employee never shows up. For one gas station worker, that frustration turned into a full overnight mess after a co-worker failed to arrive and the manager could not be reached. With the store left uncovered and no one answering the phone, they eventually walked away and contacted police to keep an eye on the gas station.
What happened next made the situation even messier, and the fallout was hard to ignore.
OP said that other employees have started to phase themselves out lately and not show up to their shifts without any notice given to their co-workers and the manager.
midorisyuOP had a shift from 2 PM to 10 PM, and even 15 minutes after their shift ended, nobody showed up to cover the next schedule. They had to report to the manager because there was no way they were going to work for another 8 hours.
That is where the night started going off the rails.
They asked for advice on how to protect themselves from the repercussions.
RedditSurprise, surprise.

They called the manager, but she was apparently sleeping. It was her husband who picked up the phone, and he "promised" to try to wake her up.
He never called back, however. The employee then tried calling other co-workers to see if they could cover the shift, but no one was available, and some did not even pick up at all.

The manager was still nowhere to be found.
All the other times this happened, the manager would come to the store and close it. This time, however, she wasn't even waking up.

They had to abandon the store because there was no way they were going to work a 16-hour shift.

They had to call the police department to guard the store instead.

OP decided not to come into work the next day. Payback, maybe?
This chaos is similar to the employee who considered publicly confronting their coworker after a month of lunch stealing.

It's great that people finally find their worth as workers, and not as some animals that can just be taken for granted.

That text said plenty on its own.
The manager, however, texted the employee, 'Do not tell anyone about last night.'
Reddit
Guess she just did not want to wake up and did it on purpose, after all.

Nothing excuses the irresponsibility of others, though. Great job for what OP did!

The husband did not even call back to inform that the manager wouldn't be able to return.

Have documentation as your weapon.

Great.

It's sad how people have to suffer from this.

It sucks to have no way around it, too.

Would you have done the same thing if you were in the employee's shoes? It truly sucks being in that kind of situation, especially when you planned for a great sleep and rest for the night.
