Descendants fans have a quick new milestone to latch onto. Hidden Heroes: A Descendants Story has already finished filming, a notably fast update for the new movie centered on the children of Disney sidekicks.
Disney shared the wrap news through the official Descendants social channels. In the Instagram clip below, the cast appears in costume with props tied to classic Disney sidekicks, marking the end of filming on the latest entry in the franchise.
The movie was announced in August and expands the Descendants universe away from royal heirs and villain kids, instead putting the spotlight on Disney's often overlooked helpers. Like the earlier films, this one is being made as a musical driven by songs and dance. Jude Weng is directing, with a screenplay by Tamara Chestna, Eydie Faye, and Emma Fletcher. The recently renamed Disney Kids & Family division is producing.
Who Hidden Heroes follows
The story is set around a secret training facility accessed through portals within fairy tales, where the descendants of legendary sidekicks are tested for a chance to join the ranks of hero partners. When a villainous duo arrives at Sidekick Academy, a group of new recruits has to work together without heroes or parents and use the skills they have just learned to protect the fairytale realm.
The young cast includes Dior Goodjohn as Jennie, the daughter of Genie; Momona Tamada as Zara, the daughter of Yzma; Jacob Rodriguez as Kronk Jr., the son of Kronk; Eva Fossaceca Smedley as Meri, the daughter of Merryweather; and Harry Jones as Lou, the son of Lumiere. Rhys Dawkins, Connor Wong, and Kyra Wong play the Potts siblings.
The adult cast includes Darren Criss as Jiminy Cricket, Sherry Cola as Yzma, James Monroe Iglehart as Genie, Hugo Ateo as Kronk, Sean Yves Lessard as Lumiere, and Dan Bakkedahl as Yen Sid.
