Friends Deceptive Move Unveiled: AITA for Bailing on Moving Day?
AITA for refusing to help my friend move after uncovering her ulterior motives? Betrayed by her secret agenda, I took a stand.
A 29-year-old man thought he was being a solid friend on moving day, then he opened one “Confidential” folder and immediately wished he had never picked it up. The whole thing kicked off when Alex, his best friend of over a decade, asked for help packing her new apartment.
But while they were hauling boxes, OP found evidence that Alex wasn’t just stressed about logistics.
Now OP is stuck between helping a friend who may be actively plotting against someone they both know, and walking away when the betrayal feels way too real.
Original Post
I (29M) have been friends with Alex (30F) for over a decade. We've always had a great relationship and supported each other through thick and thin.
Recently, Alex asked me to help her move to a new apartment. Being the supportive friend I am, I agreed without hesitation.
As we were packing her belongings, I stumbled upon a folder labeled 'Confidential'. Curiosity got the best of me, and I peeked inside to find out that it contained detailed plans to sabotage our mutual friend's business, Lisa (28F), whom Alex has always been jealous of because of her success.
I was shocked and felt betrayed. How could Alex plan something so malicious against someone we both care about?
I confronted her about it, and she admitted to her intentions, claiming it was just business rivalry. That's when I told her I couldn't help her move anymore knowing her true colors.
Alex was furious, accusing me of overreacting and being disloyal. She insisted that our friendship should come first, but I couldn't shake off the feeling of betrayal.
Now, she's left stranded with her moving plans in shambles. So, AITA?

And if you’re wondering whether meddling ruins friendships, this AITA about refusing to set up best friends after their crush confessions is a wild parallel.

OP did the usual “sure, I’ll help” thing for Alex, right up until the “Confidential” folder popped up between the packing tape and the boxes.
Once OP confronted Alex about the sabotage plans for Lisa’s business, the whole day stopped being about movers and turned into a trust test.
Alex flipped the script fast, calling OP disloyal and insisting the friendship should come first, even though Lisa was the one targeted.
And now Alex is left stranded with her moving day chaos, while OP is wondering if bailing makes him the villain or the only one who saw the red flags in time.

If Alex wanted loyalty so badly, she should have started with not trying to ruin Lisa’s life.
