Creative Artist Gives The Niftiest Modern Makeovers To Some Of Our Favorite Disney Princesses
"For quite some time, I wanted to illustrate Disney girls hanging out in pairs of friends that would get along together the best."
Disney fan art has a way of making familiar characters feel brand new, and SunnyPoppy is especially good at that trick. Her modern takes on Disney Princesses keep the magic, but swap in a fresh, dreamy style that feels both playful and polished.
The Slavic artist has been sharing work online for about six years, and her growing collection includes whimsical reimaginings from Disney, anime, and video games. In this mini-series, she gives beloved princesses a modern makeover that makes them look like the kind of friends you would happily meet for hot cocoa.
From there, the details only get more charming.
1. Moana, Ariel, & Anna
"I thought that Anna, Moana, and Ariel would be a good group of friends because of their happy-go-lucky nature. It is also interesting that Ariel would be a girl who loves the land while Moana would talk about the sea, and they would often have discussions about which one is better, with Anna being the mediator. By the way, I researched Disney princesses' heights, and it says that Moana is 7'6 inches tall, and I'm like... Nope! With the height I saw in the movie, this is not possible; it does not match... I drew her according to how I saw her in the movie, lol."

"I wanted to keep her color scheme, obviously. I didn't want to draw her in an all-pink dress like the original; I think it is better this way. I believe that she would be besties with Anna, Rapunzel, and Moana since all of them are kind of chatty and like to run off into the wilderness. Not to mention that they all defied authority figures, so there is that."

4. Rapunzel & Merida
"I thought that Merida and Rapunzel would have nice chemistry together since they are both adventurers and have a happy-go-lucky attitude. In this drawing, Merida is telling Rapunzel about all the awesome moments she experienced and her bravery (just like her dad did with her brothers), while Rapunzel is kind of fangirling, but who wouldn't?"

5. Belle & Elsa
"In this one, I drew Elsa and Belle. I do think they would get along nicely, especially since they both have that mature aura around them and both seek adventure (though, when you think about it, most princesses do)."

7. Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, & Snow White
"For quite some time, I wanted to illustrate Disney girls hanging out in pairs of friends that would get along together the best. I thought that Snow White, Cinderella, and Aurora would be a good pair of friends since they themselves are the classic representation of early Disney and embody the ideal look of femininity of those times. I also always draw Aurora yawning for some reason, as legends say that even today she is still yawning."

8. Pocahontas & Mulan
"I thought these two would be good friends together. I don't think I can name one specific reason that wouldn't also apply to other princesses, though. I had to leave the outfit Mulan wore in that movie, 'Ralph Breaks the Internet,' since it was so perfect."
