Creative Artist Gives The Niftiest Modern Makeovers To Some Of Our Favorite Disney Princesses

"For quite some time, I wanted to illustrate Disney girls hanging out in pairs of friends that would get along together the best."

If there's anything we know from being the sort of Disney fans who absolutely adore Disney fan art, it's that the imaginations of artistically inclined Disney fans are totally limitless. Being able to reimagine and recreate Disney characters in one's own style and vision is, on its own, a feat worth celebrating. As Dr. Brené Brown, a vulnerability researcher, states, "Creativity is the way I share my soul with the world," which perfectly encapsulates the spirit of fan art.

When thousands of fans all over the world can also enthusiastically delight in it? Perfection.

A Slavic artist known online as "SunnyPoppy" is creating whimsical, dreamy, magical, and downright amazing fan art from various fandoms. Of course, being dedicated Disney devotees, we're heavily invested in her Disney fan art.

It's hard to believe she has been sharing her work publicly for only six years because her skills rival those of artists who have been at it twice as long. In her mini-series featuring modern makeovers of a few of the most beloved Disney Princesses, she shares what inspires her to envision these classic gals as the sort of gal-pals you and I would love to have some hot cocoa with. As Dr. Ian Kerner, a sex therapist, notes, "Art can be a powerful medium for expressing emotions and connecting with others."

We can only share a glimpse of SunnyPoppy's skills, but we're sure that you'll enjoy everything this skilled illustrator has to offer. Not only that, but this very active artist takes commissions and creates custom designs for fans!

1. Moana, Ariel, & Anna

"I thought that Anna, Moana, and Ariel would be a good group of friends because of their happy-go-lucky nature. It is also interesting that Ariel would be a girl who loves the land while Moana would talk about the sea, and they would often have discussions about which one is better, with Anna being the mediator. By the way, I researched Disney princesses' heights, and it says that Moana is 7'6 inches tall, and I'm like... Nope! With the height I saw in the movie, this is not possible; it does not match... I drew her according to how I saw her in the movie, lol."1. Moana, Ariel, & Annasunnypoppy

3. Modern Ariel

"I wanted to keep her color scheme, obviously. I didn't want to draw her in an all-pink dress like the original; I think it is better this way. I believe that she would be besties with Anna, Rapunzel, and Moana since all of them are kind of chatty and like to run off into the wilderness. Not to mention that they all defied authority figures, so there is that."3. Modern Arielsunnypoppy

4. Rapunzel & Merida

"I thought that Merida and Rapunzel would have nice chemistry together since they are both adventurers and have a happy-go-lucky attitude. In this drawing, Merida is telling Rapunzel about all the awesome moments she experienced and her bravery (just like her dad did with her brothers), while Rapunzel is kind of fangirling, but who wouldn't?"4. 5. Belle & Elsa

"In this one, I drew Elsa and Belle. I do think they would get along nicely, especially since they both have that mature aura around them and both seek adventure (though, when you think about it, most princesses do)."5. Belle & Elsasunnypoppy

7. Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, & Snow White

"For quite some time, I wanted to illustrate Disney girls hanging out in pairs of friends that would get along together the best. I thought that Snow White, Cinderella, and Aurora would be a good pair of friends since they themselves are the classic representation of early Disney and embody the ideal look of femininity of those times. I also always draw Aurora yawning for some reason, as legends say that even today she is still yawning."7. Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, & Snow Whitesunnypoppy

8. Pocahontas & Mulan

"I thought these two would be good friends together. I don't think I can name one specific reason that wouldn't also apply to other princesses, though. I had to leave the outfit Mulan wore in that movie, 'Ralph Breaks the Internet,' since it was so perfect."8. Pocahontas & Mulansunnypoppy

Of course, this mini-series is far from the only Disney content this talented artist has created. Check out this headshot series; each portrait featuring Disney gals is truly phenomenal.
