50+ Hilarious, Savage Tweets From Women That Will Leave You Gasping For Air
These women all have a bonafide aptitude for humor and these tweets prove it.
The population of females in the whole world is estimated at 6.9 billion and there are 65.51 million more males than females. Additionally, in the United States alone, a 2021 study by the Williams Institute found that an estimated 1.2 million Americans identify as non-binary.
For however many men there are in this world, there are certainly a lot of not-men, too and existing on the side of "not a man," comes with some highs and lows, most notably the need to have a great sense of humor, especially with how prevalent social media is in our daily existence. After all, humor is a noteworthy coping mechanism for living in a world where there are more men than not-men.
Writing for NAMI (The National Alliance on Mental Health,) Bob Griggs says: "Finding some humor in a situation allows you to step back and see things more clearly. Laughing is like taking a deep breath and bringing everything back down to earth."
Therefore, it makes perfect sense that women would use their presence on Twitter at the very least occasionally to be scathing, hilarious, and utterly catastrophic with their eloquent beat downs of the world, how it works, and the men in it. Don't worry, there's plenty of self-deprecating humor here, too.

Across the United States, a staggering 81% of women have reported some form of sexual harassment and/or sexual assault in their lifetime. Statistically, as little as 2% of reported sex crimes are determined to be false.
Even more heart wrenching is that 1 in 5 women have experienced completed or attempted rape in their life time, and 1 in 3 of them were between the ages of 11 and 17.

Is it the pandemic? Absolutely.
Progressive Grocer reports that self checkouts grew by 25% in the last two years. Actually, a record number of self-checkouts were shipped globally!
There was a growing trend among retailers before the pandemic, but the desire to interact as little as possible with people in public definitely fueled the surge. Now, it is estimated that by 2026 there will be 1.5 million self-checkouts installed globally.

Self-deprecating humor is popular among Millennials and Gen Z, but some people have argued the future won't look so kindly on our ability to punch not up or down, but inward. Writing for Medium, Philip Morina says: "Self-deprecating humor is a bad coping skill because it negatively reinforces negative thought processes."
Morina also says that self-deprecating humor causes long-term harm and will be looked back on in retrospect with regret because "it creates and reinforces a culture of self-harm and negative coping skills."

Positive Psychology says that humor is both a coping technique and a defense mechanism, but they also report that people with a good sense of humor "will be in a better position to weather difficult situations, enjoy more cohesive relationships, find humor in all sorts of experiences, and benefit from more positive mental and physical health"
However, the benefits have been researched when associated with self-affirming humor and not so much with self-deprecating humor.

In contrast to some of the criticism already provided, there really is a lot of positive associations between humor and intelligence. Even Albert Einstein "attributed his brilliant mind to having a childlike sense of humor."
Not only that, but some researchers from Australia discovered that dark-humor in particular is associated with higher IQs "than their less funny peers." Those very same researchers argue that "it takes both cognitive and emotional ability to process and produce humor."

In January of 2021, Gallup, a global and analytics advice firm, determined that Donald Trump was historically unpopular and divisive, finishing his presidential term with an approval rating of 34%, which left his four-year average at an abysmal 41%. Rolling Stone reported that Trump was also, "the only president to fail to register an approval rating of at least 50 percent at any point in his tenure."

Neurobiology has taught us that laughter actually changes the brain and that's what may explain the link between humor and intelligence. Humor and laughter increases the dopamine production in our brains, which opens up the learning centers of our brains, and sustains more neural connections.

In Texas, Alamo Drafthouse announced they'd celebrate the 2017 release of Wonder Woman with an "all-female screening" of the film. At the time, they turned to social media to announce:
""Apologies, gentlemen, but we're embracing our girl power and saying 'No Guys Allowed' for one special night at the Alamo Ritz. And when we say 'People Who Identify As Women Only,' we mean it. Everyone working at this screening — venue staff, projectionist, and culinary team — will be female."
As expected, men, regardless of whether or not they even lived in Texas or anywhere near the Drafthouse, had an epic internet tantrum. So Alamo Drafthouse added a second female-only screening, because girl power, y'all.

51. November 19th is International Men's Day
According to NationalToday:
"International Men’s Day has served to promote positive aspects of male identity based on the premise that men respond more constructively to positive role models than to negative gender stereotyping. The day is not intended to compete with International Women’s Day, but to highlight the importance of men’s physical and mental health and positive masculinity."

In conclusion, it's inarguable that women are funny. Over 70 tweets have left us choosing between giggles, chortles, full belly laughter, gasping for air, and smiling just to say, "yes, same, girl, same."
Humor just may be the backbone of humanity, and while it's not always perfect, it's often exactly what we need. Whether it's self-deprecating or at the expense of someone who probably deserves it, we're here for it and so are women on Twitter.
