A Simple Candy Request Sparked One of the Biggest Fights in This Couple’s 15-Year Marriage
He just wanted a candy, but it meant so much more
We came across a story shared by a woman (OP) who had planned a solo trip to her husband’s home country after a layoff derailed his own plans to join her.
Consequently, OP’s husband generously refunded only his ticket so that she could still enjoy the vacation, and she set off excited to explore a new place and take some time for herself.
Before OP left, her husband asked her to bring back a specific candy that he hadn’t been able to find since moving away from his country.
She promised, not thinking it would become such a pivotal detail. The trip went wonderfully: sightseeing, taking photos, FaceTiming with him, etc.
But on the last day, OP decided to sleep in and enjoy her morning without rushing. When she checked the shop’s location for the candy, she realized it was out of the way, and heading there would have risked missing her flight.
So she made the decision not to get the candy, hoping her husband would forget to ask.
OP finally returned home to the smiles and hugs of her husband. And by the next morning, her biggest fear came to pass…he asked about his precious candy.
At this point, she admitted not getting it and offered to find it online. But this wasn’t feasible, as he had tried severally times in the past to no avail.
In addition, he got upset that she was more focused on having fun than doing him a small favor, despite sacrificing his ticket for her to go on the trip.
In OP’s husband’s words, she was “careless and selfish.” These words cut deep and prompted her to scold him for taking things too far

Sometimes, even small gestures carry huge emotional weight. It's difficult to blame OP’s husband for getting upset that she couldn’t do him a little favor despite the sacrifices he made.
At the same time, we can’t also fault OP for feeling bad after being called “careless” and “selfish.”
Thankfully, both sides have apologized to each other, and we do hope they learn from this going forward.
